Where To? 7.0: iPhone local search app completely redesigned - Published on 09/05/14

FutureTap today announces Where To? 7.0, an important update to its long-standing, popular local search app for iOS devices. Discover the best locations worldwide: Where To? finds the closest and best rated places to eat, shop, party, and relax. Now with a completely redesigned user interface, version 7.0 was completely rewritten and optimized for iOS 7 and 8. It is a paid update: existing users benefit from a 14 day introductory period.

Seefeld, Germany - Where To?, the long-standing, popular local search app gets a large update. The user interface was completely rewritten and optimized for iOS 7 and 8. It is a paid update: existing users benefit from a 14 day introductory period and may get the new app for $1.99 instead of $2.99.

What's going on here? If in need to know where the next optician, the next deli, or the next car wash is located the iPhone app Where To? can help. The app determines the location via GPS and lets the user choose from more than 2,200 search queries in more than 700 categories. In an instant the app lists all matches nearby. The results are visualized on a map or in a list sorted by distance.

First, the circular selection menu aids in selecting the main category for the search. Then, the user can drill down to the desired category with just a few taps. For each result the app offers a data sheet with detailed information. It displays the address and phone number and - if known - the business hours, the dinner menus, the homepage as well as user ratings and reviews.

Where To? 7.0 - What's new:
A lot has been changed in the new Where To? app. The user interface in Where To? 7.0 has been completely restructured and redesigned not only for the current iOS 7 but also with the upcoming iOS 8 in mind.

The extensive work requires a paid update. That means: Existing users need to purchase the new app again. For existing users and early birds an introductory period of two weeks is offered. In this time frame the app is available for $1.99 (instead of $2.99).

The new features in summary:
* Details: The details page is now seamlessly integrated with the map. That means the map is now always visible, at least in part.

* Separation of Reviews and Photos: Now there are three tabs on details pages: "Details", "Reviews" and "Photos". It's not required to open a sub page anymore. The new photos browser gives more room to the photos with larger thumbnails.

* New list view: In list views, single items can be swiped to the left to display contextual buttons. Categories and place results can be marked as favorites. For place results directions can now be opened more quickly.

* BMW ConnectedDrive: Where To? now also works together with BMW along with Mercedes-Benz and Audi. The place information can now be sent to BMW ConnectedDrive to transfer it easily to the BMW dashboard. The cumbersome manual adding of destinations in the onboard navigation system is gone.

* Pebble smart watch: Where To? is compatible with Pebble smart watches. The free Where To? companion app for Pebble must be installed. Then the watch displays the direction and distance to the destination. The iPhone can be kept in the pocket while going to the destination.

* New sharing options: Found places could always be shared via text message, Facebook, Twitter or email. When sharing via email the address is now attached as a Vcard for easy importing as a contact. If the recipient also has an iPhone destinations can now be sent using AirDrop as well.

Ortwin Gentz of app developer FutureTap: "We worked long and hard on version 7. We're especially proud of the various sophisticated animations, for instance when dealing with the new category wheel. It all adds up to a more fluid and pleasing user experience."

"Where To?" has been selected by Apple as iPhone App of the Week and is the winner of the "Best App Ever Awards" in the category "Best Travel App" for several years in a row. Apple selected the app under the five best navigation apps in iTunes Rewind 2011.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
* Requires iOS 7.0 or later
* 20.5 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Where To? 7.0 (20.5 MB) is now available for download on the App Store under the "Navigation" category. In the next two weeks it is available at the introductory price of $1.99. Monkimun launches new language-learning app for kids

A new article has been published at prMac.

Monkimun launches new language-learning app for kids - Published on 09/05/14

Monkimun has announced Monki Birthday Party for iOS devices. Monki Birthday Party consists of four mini-games related to birthday parties. Kids will learn new words such as numbers, shapes, colours and how to form simple sentences. The app can be used to reinforce a child's mother tongue or to introduce the sounds and structure of a second language. Monki Birthday Party is fun and at the same time turns language-learning into a fun experience for kids.

Madrid, Spain - Monkimun, an award-winning app studio, has announced Monki Birthday Party, its fourth offering in the Monki line. Monki Birthday Party is the fourth app released by Monkimun, whose products bridge the gap between fun and education. This achievement is a particular issue in the language-learning apps for the kids industry. Most apps are either fun or educational but not both. Monki Birthday Party, on the other hand, is fun and at the same time it teaches kids a language in a natural and intuitive manner.

Features:
* Main purpose is to introduce the sounds of a second language
* English, Spanish, Chinese and Portuguese
* App melds fun and education in a unique and lively manner
* Monki Birthday Party will have kids blowing out birthday candles on their screens

The app can be used to reinforce a child's mother tongue or to introduce the sounds and structure of a second language; a very important step in being able to speak it fluently.

Monkimun's VP of Product, Marieta Viedma, says, "Science has shown that even at a very young age children's brains are highly receptive to communication. The more words they hear the better. We can help them and enhance the learning process by introducing familiar objects, colors and movement. With our apps kids learn without even knowing it."

Monki Birthday Party consists of four mini-games related to birthday parties. The games are: preparing party decorations, eating a birthday cake, choosing party hats and opening a piata. One of the highlights of this app is the innovative interaction such as blowing on the screen to make the birthday cake candles go out or shaking the tablet to swing the piata. Kids will learn new words such as numbers, shapes, colours and how to form simple sentences.

Specifics:
* Download: First game free
* Price: $1.99 for the other 3 mini-games

iThinkdiff has announced Arabic Dictionary 10.0, an update to their popular bilingual dictionary app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Featuring a large database, Pronunciation, Online Translator, Phrase Book, Flash cards and games help both students and travelers to translate nearly anything from Arabic into English and vice versa. Dhaka, Bangladesh - iThinkdiff has announced the release of Arabic Dictionary 10.0, an update to their popular bilingual dictionary app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Featuring a large database, Pronunciation, Online Translator, Phrase Book, Flash cards and games help both students and travelers to translate nearly anything from Arabic into English and vice versa. Version 10.0 introduces augment reality based scan feature. Now you can point your device camera to scan words and search in dictionary.

The leading iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch bilingual dictionary translates between English and Arabic now extremly useful for augment reality based scan feature. Lead programmer Mahmud Ahsan said, "Now the dictionary will be more useful with the augment reality based scan feature using device camera. Both students and travelers can use Arabic Dictionary to translate nearly anything from Arabic into English or vice versa. Over 290 million people speak Arabic, and it is my hope that this dictionary will make communication between Arabic speakers and English speakers easier than ever before."

The new scanning feature made it easy to use the core functionality. It is trivially easy to look up written Arabic words and find their English translations. "Wikipedia lists Arabic script as one of the most popular writing systems in the world," continues Mr. Ahsan, "so it was important for us to help users look up words quickly without having to transliterate them into Latin [English] characters first."

Key Features:
* Translate individual words, phrases, or whole sentences
* Scan text in image by pointing device camera to search in dictionary
* Cross search feature. Touch a word for a while for the menu [Copy | Define | Search | Pronunciation]
* Bookmark and Recent History for instant recall
* Multiple games to help students improve their English or Arabic vocabulary
* Online & Offline Pronunciation for English & Arabic text
* Flash Card & Word of the Day for vocabulary learning
* Phrase Book

"Arabic Dictionary was designed for both students and travelers. You can use it as a phrase book for a short trip, or you can use it to learn a language for life. And, at only $4.99 in the App Store, it's cheaper than either a paperback phrase book or even the simplest study guide. A free version with in-app purchase options is also available," said Mr. Ahsan.

Arabic Dictionary's core translation function works offline. But when the user's device is online, several extra features become available, such as an online scoring system which helps students earn Achievements for using app features, plus a vocabulary Leaderboard which rewards the most effective students.

English words link to their Wiktionary page to help users discover the history behind words, and built-in app connections let users send their translations to other apps on their device, such as Facebook, Twitter, Email, and SMS.

All current iPhones, iPads, and iPod touches are supported. Devices with a Retina display will find Arabic Dictionary automatically optimizes itself for high-resolution text display so users don't need to squint.

* Universal app optimized for display on all iOS devices
* 61.7 MB
