Indianapolis based developer, NOTES17 LLC has introduced XBEATS 1.1 for iOS, an addictive music puzzle game that puts musicians' music theory skills to the test. XBEATS offers hours of brain-teasing puzzles in a relaxing gaming environment. Players will need to properly arrange the given notations to piece together valid measures of music based on various goals. Puzzles come in three packs: A - Duple Meter, B - Triple Meter, and C - Quadruple Meter.
Indianapolis, Indiana - Available on the App Store for iPhones and iPads, XBEATS is a brand-new puzzle game designed for musicians (both pros and amateurs). Similar to Sudoku, XBEATS offers grid-like puzzles that need to be solved using music notation. Players will need to properly arrange the given notations to piece together valid measures of music based on various goals.
Amateur musicians can also get better with music theory during gameplay using the built-in HINTS feature. XBEATS offers a relaxing gaming environment with over 40 levels of hand-made puzzles, which range from duple meter (2/4 time) all the way to quadruple meter (4/4 time). Each level will be a grid, and the goal would be to arrange the notations so that both the rows and columns have certain number of beats.
The players will start with simple grids and gradually step into more challenging ones. When all the 40+ hand-made levels are completed, an extra Challenges mode will get unlocked. The Challenges mode offers 30 completely new puzzles with added difficulties, such as the inclusion of double-dotted notes and rests, etc.
"XBEATS is a brand-new puzzle for musicians that can provide hours of brain- teasing fun for musicians, and it can also help amateur musicians to get better (and faster) with music theory during gameplay," said company owner and developer Lesley Liu. "There are so many things to memorize in music theory, and playing XBEATS is a fun way to make the learning process a lot easier."

Space Stack is a high difficultly game that tests a player's timing and precision. Featuring sixteen rounds of gameplay, this space-themed game presents the player with a neon colored pyramid that is split into individual "stacks," with a single stack moving across the screen at all times. The game has only one direction: tap the screen to stop the stack.

The space-themed game presents the player with a neon colored pyramid that is split into individual "stacks," with a single stack moving across the screen at all times. The game has only one direction: tap the screen to stop the stack.
To win a round the player must stop every stack on center. The game consists of sixteen rounds, and with each round an additional stack is added to the pyramid. As the pyramid gets bigger, the stacks get smaller and faster, making each round more difficult to beat than the last. What truly makes the game so challenging, however, is that the difference between correctly stopping a stack is measured in mere milliseconds.

"I wanted to make a game that was addicting and challenging. I wouldn't say that Space Stack is unbeatable. It can definitely be beaten despite the high level of accuracy it requires. Austrian iOS developer Karl Traunmuller has released Computable, the first iOS app to bring the powerful combination of the IPython computing environment and the rich collection of scientific software modules commonly referred to as the SciPy stack to the iPad. Centered around a notebook metaphor, IPython is a great platform for a wide range of computational problems, interactive lecture notes, term papers, and more.
Linz, Austria - Austrian iOS developer Karl Traunmuller has released Computable, the first iOS app to bring the powerful combination of the IPython computing environment and the rich collection of scientific software modules commonly referred to as the SciPy stack to the iPad. Centered around a notebook metaphor, IPython is a great platform for a wide range of computational problems, interactive lecture notes, term papers, and more.
Karl Traunmuller, the developer of Computable, says: "The IPython notebook is a great interactive prototyping environment for a variety of scientific and engineering problems. Also, the combination of Markdown-formatted text, TEX- or LATEX-formatted maths, and inline graphics lets you document your findings in a visually appealing way. I thought this would be cool to have on the iPad."
Under the hood, the native iOS application employs an embedded Python interpreter to run the core IPython system and the Python-based software modules from the SciPy stack. The notebook user interface, which is HTML-based on the desktop, has been written from scratch to deliver a streamlined, native iOS user experience that's optimized for the tablet form factor.
To facilitate efficient, gesture-driven notebook interaction (e.g. editing, moving, or running cells), a floating toolbar shows up whenever a cell is selected by a single tap. A second tap turns the cell into edit mode, which also opens the keyboard. To assist with authoring notebooks on the space-constrained device, Computable offers two customized keyboards, tailored to Python code and Markdown text, respectively. Also, a virtual trackpad, modeled after laptop trackpads, allows for quick and precise cursor positioning in blocks of text. The virtual trackpad can be revealed by horizontally swiping the top two rows of the extended keyboard.
Computable ships with a number of sample notebooks, most notably Prof. Lorena A. Barba's lecture notes on fluid dynamics and aerodynamics. To further extend the capabilities of the application, the addition of more Python software modules (e.g., Seaborn for plotting, NetworkX for graphs and networks, or scikit-learn for machine learning) is planned for upcoming versions.

MCE Technologies (MCE) has announced that it has begun shipping the MCE Complement, an all-in-one, portable USB 3.0 device comprised of a 2 TB Hard Drive, a Blu-ray, DVD, CD Reader/Recorder, a USB 3.0 Hub, and SD Card Reader. The MCE Complement's 2 TB hard drive is designed for use as a standard storage device and is compatible with Time Machine. The unit includes Mac Blu-ray Player software for the playback of commercial Blu-ray titles directly on the Mac. Retail price is $299.
San Dimas, California - MCE Technologies (MCE) has announced that it has begun shipping the MCE Complement: the world's first portable, all-in-one, USB 3.0 device consisting of a 2 TB Hard Drive, a Blu-ray, DVD, CD Reader/Recorder, a USB 3.0 Hub, and SD Card Reader. The MCE Complement's 2 TB hard drive is designed for use as a standard storage device and it is compatible with Time Machine. The unit includes Mac Blu-ray Player software for the playback of commercial Blu-ray titles directly on the Mac and it can record data and high definition video to 25GB, 50GB, 100GB, and 128GB Blu-ray recordable discs.
In addition to recording and playing high capacity Blu-ray media, the drive is also a full-fledged SuperDrive and reads and writes all CD and DVD formats. The Complement also boasts an integrated USB 3.0 hub as well as an SD Card Reader. The MCE Complement is portable at 5.5 x 6 x 1.25 inches, weighs in at 19 ounces and includes a carrying case.
