Williamsburg, Virginia - Hunter Research and Technology is pleased to announce a trio of updates to Wx, the weather app that was named a Mac Gem by Macworld magazine. Wx displays current conditions, forecasts, warnings, and radar for U.S. locations using high fidelity XML data from the National Weather Service. Designed for both serious weather watchers and casual users alike, Wx offers detailed information and facts in a fast, clean, and functional weather app.

Available in versions for Mac, iPhone, and iPad, Wx helps users set up locations on an embedded map, guiding them to choose nearby NWS observation sites, nearby NEXRAD radar, and nearby city- and county-based alert zones. The app sets up a 7-day summary "point" forecast customized for the specific latitude and longitude of the location, and a 7-day "pro" forecast that graphs temperature (actual and apparent), dew point, relative humidity, cloud cover, wind speed, wind direction, gust speed, 12-hour probability of precipitation, 6-hour liquid precipitation amount, and 6-hour snow amount. With their high spatial resolution, the point and pro forecasts are especially useful in coastal and mountainous regions, where typical zone forecasts can be inaccurate. These forecasts are backed up by a regional text forecast bulletin for additional information.

Wx also lets users setup weather maps for quick reference. Users can choose from over 40 default NWS maps and images, or provide the URL for any map of interest and load it right in the app. This allows users to access their favorite weather maps and images from preferred weather providers and keep them handy. Other features of Wx on Mac OS X include a display of weather conditions in the dock icon, seven day sun and moon phase information, and a high performance multi-threaded radar display with seven types of radar.

Wx is crafted with attention to detail by an award-winning professional software developer with over 20 years of experience, 9 years focused on developing weather software for Mac OS X and 6 years writing apps for iOS devices. Under the hood, Wx has all new download and processing engines, and is faster than ever. It's more reliable than ever too, offering multiple levels of redundancy to handle severe weather events that can strain NWS servers.
