UK based former Rare and Retro developer, Rhys Lewis has formed Squarehead Studios in South Wales. Over his career, he has worked in both the UK and the USA on numerous Nintendo titles including Banjo-Kazooie, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and more. Prior to founding Squarehead Studios, Rhys was the AI lead at Retro Studios. Their mission is to make fun games that are easy to play, yet deep and engaging enough to keep you coming back for more.

South Wales, United Kingdom - Former Rare and Retro developer, Rhys Lewis has formed Squarehead Studios on the edge of the Brecon Beacons national park in South Wales. Prior to founding Squarehead Studios, Rhys was the AI lead at Retro Studios. Over his career, he has worked in both the UK and the USA on numerous Nintendo titles including Banjo-Kazooie, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Donkey Kong Country Returns and Donkey Kong Country Returns: Tropical Freeze.

"Nintendo's passion for games and commitment to the highest standards is second to none. Although Squarehead Studios will be operating on a much smaller scale, I am extremely excited to try and bring the same level of quality and attention to detail to our games, whatever platform they may be on," said Lewis.

Squareheads debut title, Star Drift is an endless-space-gunner, featuring procedurally generated shoot-em-up action and an original sci-fi soundtrack by renowned composer David Wise (perhaps best known for his work on the Donkey Kong Country games).

Rhys and David first crossed paths at Rare (although they were on different teams at the time) and were reunited again when they worked on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze at Retro Studios.

Star Drift is due for release on the App Store during February, 2015.
