Educational Drawing App iOrnament Nominated for two Major App Awards - Published on 05/26/15
The popular drawing iOS app iOrnament is nominated for two major mobile app awards. The iOrnament app, which intricately connects mathematical backgrounds with artistic creativity, is among the final four candidates in the Tabby Awards in the category "Education Adults and General" and finalist for the "Best App Ever Awards" organized by 148Apps in the "Best Educational App" category. Both awards look out for the top level mobile apps in a number of categories.
Munich, Germany - The iOS drawing app iOrnament by science-to-touch got nominated in two of the major app excellence competitions of this year: the Tabby Awards and the Best App Ever Awards. "We are glad, happy and and surprised" says iOS developer and maths professor Jurgen Richter-Gebert, who is the author of the interactive art-science drawing app iOrnament. He continues: "iOrnament gained a lot of popularity over the last year. With over 1800 ratings worldwide and a world wide average of 4.75 stars we are among the best rated apps in the educational app store. We hope that enough people are attracted to the final votings of the awards."
The educational drawing app iOrnament blends art and science. The user draws simple strokes on a touch display. The app repeats these strokes according to mathematically motivated rules of symmetry. By this process even an innocent and simple stroke may produce mesmerizing and surprising pieces of art. The app simultaneously aims at artistic expressiveness and at a solid mathematical background. "So many art creation apps are either so complicated as to be inaccessible or so simplified as to be useless and/or boring. This one occupies the sweet spot between those extremes" comments user Riverrocks in his review. By this he touches the major design goal of iOrnament: depth combined with simplicity. The app also includes an educational part that introduces mathematical backgrounds of ornamental patterns and basic principles of symmetry. These interactive explanations have been tested in a variety of maths museums and proven to be of high educational and motivational impact.
In the Tabby Awards, that aim at honoring the best tablet-optimized apps worldwide, a panel of judges chaired by The Huffington Post Chief Technology Officer Otto Toth, has selected 24 Android apps and 74 iPad apps as Nominees. iOrnament is among the four finalists in the category "Education/ Adults and general". Now both a user choice award and a jury award will be determined.
The Best App Ever Awards are organized by the popular app reviewing site 148Apps. For this award the finalists were selected in a user voting procedure. iOrnament is among the 19 final nominees in the category Best Educational App alongside a second science-to-touch production "Mind the Gap", an educational English language word game.
The user choice voting for the Tabby Awards is open until June, 14th. The voting for the Best App Ever Awards is open until July, 3rd.
