More than just a word translator, the app is designed to make ordering from a menu easier. An entire column of a menu can be translated at one time, and results are presented in bold type with each line of the original menu immediately followed by its translation, so the traveler can point to what they want to order. Users simply take a photo of the menu, crop as needed, and tap "Translate." Il Menu Dice immediately handles the translation, resulting in an understandable menu for users to read and order from.

"Il Menu Dice" is Italian for "The Menu Says," which is the perfect way to describe exactly what the app does. While creating Il Menu Dice, developers created a list of over 37,000 menu-related phrases, which they translated from English to Italian. The resulting phrase dictionary is the basis of the new app's translation abilities.

"Le Menu Dit was well received by users, and we were very happy with the initial reception," says Phil Price, inventor of the app. "In fact, the app was so well received that we decided to expand our app lineup by developing an app for use by Italian speaking travelers. In addition to Il Menu Dice, we are also working on translation apps to allow Chinese speakers to order from English menus, and for English speaking travelers to order from French menus. We're very excited about our plans."

The idea for the original app, Le Menu Dit 1.0, came to Phil while biking along the Danube with his family. When the group stopped for dinner, they were unable to order from a German menu, even though Phil knew a smattering of German. When the group attempted to use a popular translation app, (Word Lens), the app proved frustrating to use and the results were poor.

"I said out loud, 'This is awful! I could write a better app myself!'" shared Phil. "My mother challenged me with, 'If you do, I will happily invest in it.' And that's how Le Menu Dit came to be." Upon returning from their trip, Phil and his two friends, Nathan Addy and Yixing (Ethan) Chen, set to work on developing the original app.

What's New in Version 2.1:
The app now detects and warn when system settings don't allow use of the camera; and the app store description has been corrected.
