New York, New York - Cognitive ToyBox today is proud to announce the release of First Words Checklist 1.34 for the iPad, their app designed to help parents and teachers better understand a child's language development.

"Early childhood development is often a source of anxiety, and 'First Words Checklist' is intended to ease the concerns so many parents have," said Tammy Kwan, co-founder of Cognitive ToyBox. "Our goal is to foster trust among parents and provide science-based learning tools that empower them to guide and support their children's education."

The app, intended for use on iPads, was released to the Apple App Store, and has been in private beta for several months with parents and educators. It is the first app launched by Cognitive ToyBox, a company that develops apps to assess and accelerate children's learning curves.

"My daughter loves to play with the app, and it's great for me to see how her vocabulary is progressing," said Meredith Meyers, a Brooklyn mom.

"The app helps me to better understand how each child's Chinese is progressing," said Losmeiya Huang, a Chinese immersion teacher who has been using a custom Chinese version of the app in her classroom at Avenues: The World School in Manhattan.

First Words Checklist is available in the App Store. The app is for 2-3 year old children and evaluates common categories, such as colors, numbers, and household items.

Co-founders Tammy Kwan and Dr. Brenden Lake started the company after participating in the first cohort of the I-Corps(TM) for Learning program through the National Science Foundation. The I-Corps(TM) program is designed to help scientists and engineers to move research from the lab into the marketplace.

In addition to assessment apps, the company is partnering with leading academic psychologists to build research-based apps to accelerate a young child's language curves. "These apps will look and feel like typical children's games, but each will pack in cutting edge scientific research," said Lake.
