Duluth, Minnesota - Osmic Research Company has updated TalkWithFish 1.0.11, an innovative app that includes over 80 Whale, Dolphin and Fish Calls for 25 species of game fish. New, in the app, are 14 Dolphin and Whale songs to draw these cetacean mammals in for close encounters. The Fish Calls are the actual underwater recorded spawning calls, fish feeding sounds and bait vibrations that attract predator fish to the fisherman's dock or boat. Herring Farts are one of the app's Fish Calls used to catch any fish that feeds on herring. The Swedish Navy mistook Herring Farts heard on their hydrophones for Soviet Spy submarines plying Stockholm Bay .

Fishermen have used underwater sounds for thousands of years to attract fish. Aristotle described using fish sounds 2000 years ago and Homer discussed sound attraction for catfish (Janko 1900). My father, a commercial fisherman on the Mississippi River, used oar slaps to bring catfish to his setlines. Fish hear and feel the sounds and vibrations of food creatures and sex objects, before they actually see them. Fish produce sounds by "stridulation," which is the grinding of teeth and spines. They can also use "sonic muscles" to beat their swim bladder like a drum. Some fish are named for the sounds they make, like the croakers, the drums and the grunts. Whales communicate over hundreds of miles with sound.

The Fish Call sound tracks on the Talk With Fish App can call fish to your boat, dock, bank fishing or ice fishing area from over 100 yards away and excite them into a feeding frenzy.
