P22's newest release, Wedge, is the singular vision of one man. Spanning decades, the design of this font by noted New Zealand architect Bruce Rotherham took the history of the Roman letter into full consideration. Despite ultimate rejection for production into metal type, the design was realized as intended and is now released in digital form. Over sixty years after it was first conceived, Wedge is now available from P22. Introductory sale pricing is available through April 30th, 2014.
Buffalo, New York - P22 Type Foundry and the International House of Fonts (IHOF) have announced Wedge- A Font by Architect Bruce Rotherham. P22 Wedge is the singular vision of one man. Spanning decades, the design of this font took the history of the Roman letter into full consideration. Despite ultimate rejection for production into metal type, the design was realized as intended and is now released in digital form.
Noted New Zealand architect Bruce Rotherham (1926-2004) was inspired by Herbert Bayer's 'universal alphabet' created at the Bauhaus in 1927. While he admired Bayer's pure geometry, Rotherham felt it was 'virtually unreadable'. The Bauhaus-inspired inclination for architectural publications to use sans serif faces provoked Rotherham to consider how a readable Roman book face might be approached using some of Bayer's same principles of simplification, but also retracing the evolution and use of the Roman form in an analytic manner.
The Wedge alphabet was started in 1947 when Rotherham was an architecture student at the University of Auckland. In 1958, after years of development and consultation with his father, who was a master printer, Rotherham approached Monotype to consider producing his typeface for commercial release. After some back and forth with Monotype, and despite trial proofs being made, the design was politely declined for being too much of a 'specialist face'.
Rotherham continued to practice architecture in New Zealand and Great Britain for over thirty years. By chance, he heard the BBC radio show Science Now discussing the topic of computer typesetting. Not content to give up on Wedge, he contacted the item's producer, Adrian Pickering, at the University of Southampton School of Electronics and Computer Science. Pickering worked closely in collaboration with Rotherham in the production of the digital version of the face. The type was shown posthumously for Rotherham in the 2009 exhibit Printing Types: New Zealand Type Design since 1870, held at Objectspace, in Auckland.

Independent iOS developer, Ivan Rublev has announced DayBell 1.1, his new auto-repeating timer app for iPhone and iPad. DayBell automatically notifies the user of a set period of time during the day. The app helps take a daily activity on schedule. Set the notification period, select a sound, and hit the Start button. With 14 preset sounds or the ability to choose a song from device's music library, it's possible to configure notifications that are easy and comfortable to accept.
Rostov-on-Don, Russian Federation - Take a daily periodic action on a schedule with notifications from the DayBell app. This app can help to take medicine, cook, walk with dog, service a machine at the factory, or do any daily periodic action in time.
The user sets the notification period, selects a sound, and hit the Start button. When the time has counted down the DayBell app notifies the user with the sound and the alert. Then the countdown automatically starts over again, unless the user hits the Stop button.
The DayBell app is intended to notify user of only one daily activity - most important one. The other less important things can be scheduled around the most important one manually. This keeps the interface of the app simple and pure. "Everybody is responsible for organizing their own activities. The DayBell app tries to help with the most important one." - says app's developer Ivan Rublev.
The DayBell app indicates the time of the next notification and the countdown. When the app is running in the foreground it prevents the screen from dimming (if the appropriate option is not disabled in the app's settings). This allows user to see the countdown at every moment. The DayBell app supports all sizes of iPhone & iPad screens and all device orientations. It makes it possible to put the device where it is comfortable for user to watch the screen.
The DayBell app works in the background and continues to notify the user from the notification center unless they stops the app manually. One noteworthy feature is the possibility to select any song from device's music library as the notification sound. This feature is available in the Extended edition.

All contestants have to do to enter is share news about the contest on social media or via email. The winner will be announced on Monday, April 28, 2014. Now the way people listen to music can have vintage style too. Vintape brings the nostalgia of the cassette player to any iOS device.
B&G's Vintape app replaces the modern music player on an iOS device with a funky cassette player interface. Users can choose from a number of different cassette skins to make the experience their own. The cassette player experience can be as vintage as the user wants. Users can rewind or fast-forward the cassette tape with a rotation gesture. The gesture mimics the gesture used when actually turning the dials of a real cassette tape. Users are also able to enable background tape noise, so the music sounds as if it originated off of a real cassette tape. Of course, if users prefer not to hear the hiss of the tape, it can be disabled.
"We noticed that 80's style is in, so we wanted to pay homage to the cassette players," explains Stefano Galizia, CEO of B&G. "Vintape lets users have that 80's music listening experience with their modern day technology. They can make it as vintage or as modern as they please."
The app is also compatible with Apple headphone commands, so if users wish to control the app with the buttons on their headphones, they're able to do so.
Like any music player, Vintape lets users create playlists. Each playlist makes up a cassette tape in the mobile app. As users create more playlists, they build their collection of cassette tapes. Their collection is displayed so users see the "top" of the cassettes with the names of each playlist. With Vintape, playlists are no longer just lists. They're lists with 80's flare.

Before preparing for the launch of the next major version 6 of Ergonis' highly acclaimed text expansion software Typinator, the company today announced a maintenance release that incorporates several minor bug fixes and improves compatibility with certain third-party applications like Aperture, MacGiro, Mellel, and others.
"We don't want to force our customers to pay for an upgrade to Typinator 6 to get these remaining minor issues fixed, so we decided to offer a last 5.x maintenance update, which is free for the whole Typinator 5 customer base" said Christoph Reichenberger, CEO of Ergonis Software. Typinator is a powerful, yet elegantly simple solution that boosts your productivity by automating the process of inserting frequently used text and auto-correcting typing errors. Across all applications, it detects specific sequences of typed characters and automatically replaces them with text snippets, graphics, URLs, dates and special characters.

Typinator 5.9 requires Mac OS X 10.5.8 or newer and is compatible with OS X Mavericks. Typinator 5.9 is a recommended upgrade for all users running on OS X Mavericks.
