SeedCode has released a new upgrade of their flagship calendar which now works on the web via WebDirect. This upgrade to the Pro Calendar also adds an option to use Perform Script on Server (PSOS). This can offer a big speed improvement to folks who open the calendar from outside their local network. SeedCode Calendar-including these new WebDirect layouts-is built solely in FileMaker Pro so it's easy to modify: there's no javascript, PHP, plugins or any other black box stuff you can't get into.
Seattle, Washington - SeedCode has released a new upgrade to their flagship calendar, especially tuned for folks working with the calendar from outside their local network: the calendar now runs in a browser through FileMaker WebDirect and runs scripts on the server when possible, making the calendar much faster.
FileMaker Calendar in a Browser:
"Our customers have been asking for browser access for years," says John Sindelar of SeedCode. "We originally thought the browser experience wouldn't have many of our desktop features--and that would have been OK as ease of access trumps any one feature--but we were able to deliver almost complete feature parity with the desktop calendar."
Features shared between the desktop and WebDirect calendars include:

* Filters and Color Coding
* Gantt Charts
* Multiple Data Sources
* To-Do Lists
* Multi-Day Events
"Most importantly," John Sindelar continues, "we stuck to straight-forward FileMaker layouts here so our customers will be able to modify these WebDirect layouts just like they do layouts on the desktop side of the calendar. Folks can get under the hood and extend the calendar to suit their own needs."
The WebDirect side of SeedCode calendar is expressed in a separate set of scripts and layouts optimized for WebDirect. These partake of the same data mapping developers wire up for their desktop calendars so WebDirect support can be pasted into existing calendar deployments, providing they are up to date.
A Faster Calendar: Perform Script on Server:
The "Perform Script on Server" script step (PSOS) was introduced in FileMaker Server 13 to let clients of a hosted file run scripts on the server. Using PSOS can result in dramatic performance improvements for calendar users opening files from outside their local network.
"Our tests with the Pro Calendar showed refresh times 10-40 times faster when using PSOS from outside the network," says John Sindelar of SeedCode.

UK based Apple Certified Training Centre, Amsys has announced that they have been awarded the ISO 9001 certification, the world's most highly recognised standard for developing and maintaining quality management systems. As part of Amsys' drive to improve quality and customer satisfaction, the company's computer repair workshops have recently undergone a refurbishment to create a clean, attractive and modern environment.
London, United Kingdom - Amsys has announced that they have been awarded the ISO 9001 certification, the world's most highly recognised standard for developing and maintaining quality management systems. Led by Emily Case, Amsys Quality Manager, the certification recognises that Amsys' policies and procedures comply with the high standard required by ISO 9001 and demonstrate their commitment to quality assurance and customer satisfaction.
Although Amsys already had a number of quality assurance measures in place, it was agreed that the process to achieve ISO certified status would implement a number of ISO standards that would further improve customer satisfaction, efficiency, and therefore the attractiveness of Amsys as the Apple Authorised Service Provider and Training Centre of choice to potential and existing clients.
With many of their processes independently scored as "well defined" or "excellent", the audit described Amsys quality management system as:
"...very well structured and is firmly embedded in the organisation. The product realisation process is well defined with controlled Policies, Processes and Procedures which can all be found within the various Quality Management System Files held on the organization's shared drive and on the HR People System."
Furthermore, as part of Amsys' drive to improve quality and customer satisfaction, the company's computer repair workshops have recently undergone a GBP50,000 refurbishment to create a clean, attractive and modern environment. "Not only have we created clean and clinical conditions in which our clients Macs are repaired, but we have improved the working environment for our staff. Both of these factors will help drive continued improvement in quality standards" stated Alex Hawes, Amsys' Managing Director.
Looking to the future, Amsys plan to complete further ISO standards including Information Security certification ISO 27001 and Service Management ISO 20001, which will demonstrate Amsys' commitment to world class information security and service standards.

Red Giant today released an update to Red Giant Universe, its new multi-host app library of GPU accelerated tools. Universe is community with access to an ever-expanding library of tools for filmmakers, editors, VFX artists, and motion designers. Version 1.1 includes nine new free and premium effects as well as functionality updates to several existing Universe tools. These updates expand the Universe toolset to 59 Effects and Transitions, more than half of which are free.
San Francisco, California - Today, Red Giant released an update to Red Giant Universe, its new multi-host app library of GPU-accelerated tools. The updated (version 1.1) includes nine new free and premium effects as well as updates that add new features and functionality to several existing Universe tools. These updates expand the Universe toolset to 59 Effects and Transitions, more than half of which are free.
"When we released Universe, we promised frequent updates," said Sean Safreed, Red Giant's co-founder. "We added three new free tools including an awesome little Luminance noise generator. We also included Red Giant Carousel, available for the first time for Adobe apps. We held this release up for a few days to make sure it worked well in Adobe's new CC 2014 release."
With less than two months of development time, one might expected a software update to offer some minor improvements, and maybe one or two new tools. But the Red Giant Universe team has turned around a large amount of new content in just a few weeks; and not only are there a lot of new tools, there are a lot of great ones.
"I'm really really impressed not only by the number of new tools, but by their quality and the artistic possibilities they provide," said filmmaker and editor David Pepe. "Just the nine new tools in this update alone are worth the entire cost of Universe."
The secret is Supernova, Red Giant's powerful, new java script-based development platform, which makes the process of creating and updating plug-ins much faster and easier than ever before. Supernova also makes it simple to output plug-ins for all supported host apps, at the touch of a button. Currently, Universe supports Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro X and Motion, with more host apps on the way.
This release of Universe includes many new additions and updates including glows, cartoon effects, vintage footage treatments and more. Version 1.1 also features SplitScreen Blocks and SplitScreen Custom Blocks from CrumplePop, based on its extremely popular split-screen tool. This is the first time this tool is available for Premiere Pro and After Effects. In addition, Holomatrix and ToonIt have also been given new features and presets, based on user feedback.
One of the most interesting aspects of Universe is that plug-in development is being driven by the community. To that end, Universe 1.1 also includes a new free high-quality Compound Blur tool based on community voting in Universe Labs.

Puchheim, Germany - "Much app, very party, wow!" These are just some of the comments Doge made when he heard about Boinx Software's latest endeavor: an Indiegogo campaign to launch PartySnapper. A social photo wall on steroids, PartySnapper is (or will be, with the help of generous backers) an iOS app that will truly wow party-goers around the world. To make PartySnapper a reality, Boinx has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $20,000.
PartySnapper has both a photo-taking mode for attendees and a mode for hosting parties. Every guest at a party takes tons of pictures with their iPhones. PartySnapper transmits these instantly to the host's iPad or iPhone wirelessly, where all the photos are collected then displayed as a beautiful slideshow that plays on a TV or projector via AirPlay or cable. At the end of the party, there's no need to ask the guests to send in their photos - they've already been aggregated on the host's device. The app is super easy to use; hosts and party-goers alike should both be able to use it, even at the end of a long night of partying.
Bastian Wolfle (AKA Dr. Term T. Bowman Ph.D.) came up with the original concept for PartySnapper while planning his wedding a few years ago. "From the day we started planning in 2011, I knew I wanted to do something geeky, being the geek I am. I thought about the old disposable cameras you see at many weddings and thought it was a cool idea, but it takes days until you see the pictures, and I wanted everyone to be able to see them at the wedding."
"I figured it would be cool if, the moment our guests snapped a picture, it would be transferred and automatically displayed," he continues. Bastian was able to hack together a temporary solution, but this was far too complicated to become a thing. After months of politely requesting (read: begging) the Boinx team to build an easy-to-use app that would not require a degree in computer science, the developers finally gave in. "Luckily a couple of the guys were at my wedding so they could see how much people loved the slideshow. I like to tell myself that this convinced them PartySnapper is a great app that entertains guests and works easily."
"We have been toying around with this app idea for a long time - once Bastian persuaded us to develop it, of course. But making a great app takes a lot of effort and more often than not, an app is not appreciated by users enough to pay the developer back," states Oliver Breidenbach, CEO of Boinx Software. "In fact, development, design and marketing will take about three times more than the $20,000 campaign goal. But we are prepared to match every dollar with two of our own to make PartySnapper a reality, if backers also think this is a great idea. All we ask is that with a small (or large) contribution, you show us that our efforts will not be in vain."

Puchheim, Germany - "Much app, very party, wow!" These are just some of the comments Doge made when he heard about Boinx Software's latest endeavor: an Indiegogo campaign to launch PartySnapper. A social photo wall on steroids, PartySnapper is (or will be, with the help of generous backers) an iOS app that will truly wow party-goers around the world. To make PartySnapper a reality, Boinx has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $20,000.
PartySnapper has both a photo-taking mode for attendees and a mode for hosting parties. Every guest at a party takes tons of pictures with their iPhones. PartySnapper transmits these instantly to the host's iPad or iPhone wirelessly, where all the photos are collected then displayed as a beautiful slideshow that plays on a TV or projector via AirPlay or cable. At the end of the party, there's no need to ask the guests to send in their photos - they've already been aggregated on the host's device. The app is super easy to use; hosts and party-goers alike should both be able to use it, even at the end of a long night of partying.
Bastian Wolfle (AKA Dr. Term T. Bowman Ph.D.) came up with the original concept for PartySnapper while planning his wedding a few years ago. "From the day we started planning in 2011, I knew I wanted to do something geeky, being the geek I am. I thought about the old disposable cameras you see at many weddings and thought it was a cool idea, but it takes days until you see the pictures, and I wanted everyone to be able to see them at the wedding."
"I figured it would be cool if, the moment our guests snapped a picture, it would be transferred and automatically displayed," he continues. Bastian was able to hack together a temporary solution, but this was far too complicated to become a thing. After months of politely requesting (read: begging) the Boinx team to build an easy-to-use app that would not require a degree in computer science, the developers finally gave in. "Luckily a couple of the guys were at my wedding so they could see how much people loved the slideshow. I like to tell myself that this convinced them PartySnapper is a great app that entertains guests and works easily."
"We have been toying around with this app idea for a long time - once Bastian persuaded us to develop it, of course. But making a great app takes a lot of effort and more often than not, an app is not appreciated by users enough to pay the developer back," states Oliver Breidenbach, CEO of Boinx Software. "In fact, development, design and marketing will take about three times more than the $20,000 campaign goal. But we are prepared to match every dollar with two of our own to make PartySnapper a reality, if backers also think this is a great idea. All we ask is that with a small (or large) contribution, you show us that our efforts will not be in vain."
