The Distance Offers Parse Server Hosting After Shutdown - Published on 07/08/16

The Distance, a UK-based iOS and Android app development company, have announced they will offer support for app developers affected by the Facebook Parse shutdown. Parse is a cloud based BaaS designed to enable developers to manage data, track analytics and PUSH messages to their web and mobile apps. The company has devised a new service offering (ParseHosting).The platform will enable them to migrate the majority of the backend services originally hosted by Parse to their own infrastructure.

York, United Kingdom - The Distance, a UK based iOS and Android App Development company have devised a new service offering (ParseHosting) to meet the needs of the thousands of app developers effected by the recent announcement that Facebook is shutting down its Parse service.

Parse is a cloud based BaaS (Backend as a Service) designed to enable developers to manage data, track analytics and PUSH messages to their web and mobile apps. With a solid foundation and accessible pricing model, it became ubiquitous in the developer community and is currently used by thousands of developers to power over half a million apps around the globe.

Parse was bought by Facebook in 2013 for $85 million so they could continue their support for app developers, however this commitment was short lived. On January 29th 2016, Facebook announced it was winding down the Parse service (over a twelve month period) to "focus [our] resources elsewhere," a spokesman for Facebook stated. "Moving forward we want to dedicate more resources to high-impact products and services." This has come as a huge shock to the developer community, and has prompted huge backlash and concern across the industry.

In order to continue to support their existing clients using Parse services, The Distance have announced that they will be offering a hosted environment for Parse Server - Facebook's open source version of their platform. The platform will enable them to migrate the majority of the backend services originally hosted by Parse to their own infrastructure.

The open source Parse Server, however, is not feature complete. It lacks a number of the key pieces of functionality developers rely upon, e.g. a Content Management System (CMS), Analytics and PUSH notifications. Therefore The Distance have made a promise to build out the open source product with their own additional services, providing a fully featured infrastructure for their projects.

In order to support the community The Distance are pleased to announce ParseHosting a cloud environment built for existing Parse users to support their migration from the Facebook service to an alternative infrastructure. With three different service offerings The Distance are confident that their Parse Hosting services will be able to meet the requirements of all app projects:

* Self - The Distance will help existing Parse users migrate to a Parse Server instance of their choosing, allowing them full control of their app infrastructure.
* Pure - The Distance will offer unaltered but fully maintained hosting of Parse Server for those who are looking for ongoing managed support.
* Extra - Building on The Distances expertise, a more complete product offering, providing a number of extra features that will be lost in the migration to the open source equivalent.

The ParseHosting proposition is in the process of being defined and The Distance recommend anyone interested in the service visit the ParseHosting website and sign up for the newsletter, or follow them on Twitter via @ParseHosting or @TheDistanceHQ.

A New Zombie Shooter Inspired By Presidential Candidate Donald Trump

A New Zombie Shooter Inspired By Presidential Candidate Donald Trump - Published on 07/08/16

Upsilon Dynamics Inc. today announces Zombie Wall Attack 1.2, their new zombie shooter for iOS and Android devices. In Zombie Wall Attack, your objective is to fight off countless and ruthless waves of zombie attackers. The lead developer talks about Indie game development and the struggles that come with launching a smash hit and how what started out as a very controversial game surrounding presidential candidate Donald Trump, was transformed into a Zombie themed shooter.

Cambridge, Canada - Upsilon Dynamics Inc. today is proud to release version 1.2 of their new Zombie Shooter, Zombie Wall Attack. In Zombie Wall Attack, your objective is to fight off countless and ruthless waves of zombie attackers. The concept is simple, prevent as many zombies as possible from hopping over a wall and entering your compound - if more than 20 zombies manage to jump pass, you lose. The objective is to get through as many waves as possible with the highest score possible.

"It's been pretty well known that zombies have taken the world by storm quite figuratively. Everywhere we look, we see a new zombie movie, game or zombie-related product being released. It just made common sense as a small game studio to focus on what people find fun, enjoyable and hip." say's Matt Drouillard, lead developer and owner of up start Upsilon Dynamics Inc.

But what is most peculiar about this game is not how it is themed around zombies, but how the idea began. "When we first built this game, it was called Trump Wall Defense. Which was actually an idea I had as my first app, it was meant to target Donald Trump's claims regarding a wall in Mexico and poke fun at it. We built the game, it was jam packed with Trump quotes regarding the proposed Mexico-US border wall. So I began immediately developing the game, the bad guys were drug dealers, rapists and criminals. We thought it was funny, and the game was quite good as well - each wave the user would hear a new funny trump quote. Unfortunately, Apple did not agree and therefore it was rejected. You can still find that game on Google Play under Trump Wall Defense but you won't find it anywhere in the Apple store" says Mr. Drouillard.

As a reaction to the rejection from Apple, Upsilon Dynamics quickly came up with a new theme that was well suited - Zombies. Zombie themed games are nothing new, doing a simple search on the app-store for "Zombie" will yield thousands of results but Mr. Drouillard believes that Zombie Wall Attack has what it takes to entrench users in a new and exciting zombie killing experience. "We've incorporated a professionally produced sound track, graphics and game play. The moment the user is presented with the main menu he or she is immediately drawn into a creepy and dark world, spending hundreds of hours developing this I was beginning to get creeped out myself listening to the sound track and sound FX in this game. It really pulls you into a dark world of zombies, it really works."

Zombie Wall Attack offers an unlimited number of waves, in which the user must use up to 6 different weapons all with different levels to damage, speed and abilities to kill as many zombies as possible. Some of the weapons include cannons and missiles, as well as futuristic weapons like laser guns, nukes and impulse rockets. It is sure to keep any user engaged and thrilled as they fight off hoards of zombies.

"We took a few different concepts from other games and incorporated them into our game. Tower defense games for example are wildly popular - one of my all time favorites Field Runners has a similar concept, if so many bad guys get past you lose - the same concept was incorporated into Zombie Wall Attack and I think it will do well with customers. We were sad that Trump Wall Defense was rejected, but we feel this new incarnation using the same core game logic will do well with customers."

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
* Requires iOS 7.0 or later
* 64.5 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Zombie Wall Attack 1.2 is Free (with in-app purchase) and available worldwide through the App Store in the Games category. Monster Run for iOS Offers Players a Spooky Good Platformer Challenge - Published on 07/08/16

Indie game developer, Forsbit LLC today announces Monster Run 1.0.1, their challenging horror-themed platformer game for iOS devices. In Monster Run, players will face a spooky game that will challenge them as they try to get their monster home, following its escape from the evil scientist's lab. The game is all about timing and dexterity. Jump obstacles, collect coins, and gather rewards, as the monster tries to find its way to the portal to warp to the next level.

Southampton, Pennsylvania - Independent mobile game developer, Forsbit LLC today is proud to announce the release and immediate availability of Monster Run 1.0.1, their challenging horror-themed platformer game for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. Monster Run is the game for the player who rooted for the monsters when they watched the old Universal horror movies. The monsters have escaped the lab where they were studied and had evil experiments performed on them, now they just want to get home safely. Players will jump over obstacles, use gravity to conquer levels, collect coins, gather rewards to unlock the rest of the monsters on the way home.

Monster Run is all about timing and dexterity. While the gameplay appears simple, players will find the challenge quickly amps up, as they progress level by level into the depths of the game. The controls initially consist of a simple tap of the screen to jump over obstacles, but as the challenge increases, devious twists are thrown at the player. They'll encounter levels where they're forced to run and jump upside down, and fall upwards to conquer a level. The game forces players to think with a slightly warped perspective about things if they expect to safely reach the portal and warp to the next level.

"I always loved the old monster movies, and yes, I'll admit that I sometimes rooted for the monsters to win. Monster Run is the result of my love for those old horror films, and my desire to help them escape their chains," says Forsbit President, Pavel Avramenko. "I also love the old pixel-art platformer games like Castlevania, so I tried to incorporate the simple game controls and the challenging game play those games brought to the screen. I think players are going to find Monster Run to be a chillingly enjoyable challenge."

Features:
* Exciting and addictive gameplay
* A total of 180 unique levels spread over 3 mysterious worlds
* 7 adorable characters to choose from (Slime, Bookface, Zombie, Ghost, Skeleton, Brain, Fishman)
* Each character has its own special ability
* 3 different control types
* Lovely crafted high-quality pixel artwork
* Fantastic 8-bit soundtracks
* Glorious sound effects
* Over 20 achievements to unlock

Along with the addictive gameplay, Monster Run also offers Game Center compatibility, so you can challenge your friends to see who can complete the most levels. Everyplay functionality allows players to join the Monster Run online community to share tips, chat with other gamers, and watch replays to see how other gamers beat that particularly challenging level that they can't seem to get past.

In addition to buying more coins via a convenient in-app purchase, additional coins can be earned by watching short videos ads informing users of other entertaining apps they might wish to try. Players can then use the coins they've collected to unlock new characters, who all bring a new special ability to the game.

"I know that gamers who try Monster Run will enjoy the challenge, as well as the mood setting music, and pixel-art retro graphics," continues Pavel. "Monster Run is a game that gamers of any age will be able to pick up and immediately begin playing. However, it will take a scary long time for them to master it!"

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
* Requires iOS 7.0 or later
* Universal Application
* 64.9 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Monster Run 1.0.1 is free and is available worldwide through the App Store in the Games category. Pegs 'n Holes Offers a Unique and Challenging Logic Puzzle for Everyone - Published on 07/08/16

Indie developer Jordan Naftolin today announces Pegs 'n Holes 1.9, an important update to his unique logic puzzle game for iOS, Android, and Windows devices. Pegs 'n Holes offers a colorful logic challenge, incorporating elements of both Sudoku and Minesweeper. Players must determine the correct sequence of moves to fill all of the colorful holes with the matching color pegs. Version 1.9 improves the user experience, and makes it easier for players to view their stats upon completing a board.

Seattle, Washington - Jordan Naftolin is proud to announce the immediate availability of Pegs 'n Holes 1.9, an important update to his unique logic puzzle game for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android, and Windows devices. Pegs 'n Holes offers players a colorful spatial logic puzzle challenge, incorporating elements of both Sudoku and Minesweeper. Players must determine the correct sequence of moves to fill each hole on the board with a peg of the same color. The game is easy to learn and fun to play. It's the perfect game for casual gamers who are looking for an enjoyable and relaxing way to keep their minds sharp.

To solve a board, players will need to logically plan out their moves to ensure that each colored peg winds up in a corresponding hole. While the game can be played with a relatively simple 4X4 board layout, players will discover that their problem solving skills will really be put to the test once they try larger board sizes.

"Logic puzzles have always been a favorite of mine, especially games like Sudoku and Minesweeper," says Pegs 'n Holes creator Jordan Naftolin. "When I decided to create Pegs 'n Holes, I began by thinking about why I enjoyed these games so much. Both of these games can be relaxing to play, though they also offer enough of a challenge to keep me hooked. Depending on my mood, I can choose to either casually solve the board without worrying about how long it takes, or challenge myself by trying to complete the board faster than I had in the past. I designed Pegs 'n Holes with a similar feel. I also designed the game so that players are never at a loss if they make a mistake while playing. In Pegs 'n Holes, it's easy to undo one or more moves to find and fix any mistakes without any penalty."

Features:
* 6 board sizes for solo play: 4x4, 5x5, 6x6, 7x7, 8x8, and 9x9
* An unlimited number of boards for each board size (boards are randomly generated, and guaranteed to have a solution)
* Compete online against other players worldwide on a set of 7X7 boards (3 new boards generated daily)
* Players can view their stats for both solo and competitive play
* Play for a few minutes, or play for hours. Pegs 'n Holes is a great way to fill free time.
* Colorblind option (uses shapes instead of relying on colors)
* Available in English and Spanish

Over 2 million boards have challenged players on the Windows 10 and Windows Phone platforms, and now iOS and Android users can join in the fun. The app is a Universal Application, so iPad owners will find the game is custom designed for their devices' larger screens. Version 1.9 offers an improved user experience. It is now easier for players to view their stats when they've completed a board.

"When I developed the game, I wanted it to appeal to gamers of all ages," continues Jordan. "Younger players find the game concept easy to grasp and are entertained by the smaller board sizes. More experienced players love keeping their minds sharp with larger board sizes. Some players enjoy the relaxing nature of the game, while other players are competitive and strive for the fastest times. I receive a lot of positive feedback from users all around the world, and I'm thrilled knowing that Pegs 'n Holes has become a favorite game to so many people."

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
* Requires iOS 7.0 or later
* Universal Application
* 33.0 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Pegs 'n Holes 1.9 is free, and is available worldwide through the App Store in the Games category. Players can remove ads and unlock extra-large board sizes via in-app purchases. An Android version is available through Google Play. Windows Phone and Windows 10 versions are also available.
