Pyxwise Software has had its educational methodology validated by an academic study, which showed an average improvement of 1.9 grades among children who regularly used its iPad apps. Simplex Spelling improves English spelling and reading skills by using a powerful combination of phonics lessons, spelling/word patterns, our unique "reverse phonics" approach and contextually relevant spelling rules. The 2014 study was carried out by Dr. Linda Chmiliar and Serena Seeger at Athabasca University.

Edmonton, Canada - Pyxwise Software, the maker of the Simplex Spelling Phonics 1 and 2 apps, has had its educational methodology validated by an academic study which showed an average improvement of 1.9 grades among children who regularly used its iPad apps.

The 2014 study, carried out by Dr. Linda Chmiliar and Serena Seeger at Athabasca University, followed 23 students with learning disabilities who used the Simplex Spelling series of apps for 10-15 minutes a day for approximately 1-2 days a week over an 18-week period. Students took the Schonell Spelling Test at the beginning and end of the research period, which revealed an average rise of 1.9 grade levels among students involved. The largest grade improvement was 4.4 grade levels.

Brno, Czech Republic - MADFINGER Games has announced the release and immediate availability of UNKILLED 0.4.0, an update to their popular zombie shooter made for mobile devices. NYC is the center of the world's latest zombie outbreak. You are Joe, member of the anti-zombie unit WOLFPACK, a private military organization designed to find, track, and eliminate the zombie menace before it becomes global.

"When we released the game, we tried to give players great graphics that pushed the limits of what mobile gaming can achieve, along with a perfected control system and hundreds of story missions," explains Pavel Cizek, the project leader of UNKILLED. "Now, with this latest update, we're adding the competitive feature of player vs. player, which gives gamers the option to use zombies as their own personal army."

Asynchronous multiplayer now allows players to build their own army of zombies using DNA blueprints. Each type of zombie can be further improved in several ways: speed, force, attack rating, etc.

The new Skirmish Ops map now displays randomly-selected players bases with their corresponding defense level. If the defense level is too strong, the attacking player will first need to improve and expand its own zombie army before sending them into battle. When defending, the goal is deceptively simply: fight and eliminate the enemy zombie army in the given time limit.

For more hardcore gamers, the Skirmish map also offers new Neutral Zombie missions with greater difficulty for bigger rewards. The results of attacking and defending players' bases are counted by using the score in the Skirmish Leaderboards. Every player now has the option to choose their own nickname.

Last but not least, UNKILLED now features daily challenges, tracked by a Daily Challenge Leaderboard. Headshots, zombie deaths, ammo consumption, and more--players can compete for Daily Challenge supremacy with an ever-changing trophy system. All this new content is MADFINGER's way of saying "Happy Holidays and thank you!" to its loyal fan base.

Parma, Italy - Creolabs has announced the opening of the beta test of Creo, their modern design and development tool for Mac OS X. Creo combines both phases of the development process into one easy-to-use tool. App creation is normally split into two phases - with designers using a prototyping layout tool to create the interface, and developers using native development tools to create the code that powers the designer's interface - Creo merges those two worlds into a single tool that allows users to concentrate on creating their app, not on the development process.

Creo offers drag-and-drop controls, classes, and objects that allow anyone to build their app's navigation and features with just a few clicks of their mouse. While building the app's interface, the user is also effectively building a native app. Creo uses Creolabs CreoKIT Objective-C/Swift native framework that enables Creo to execute any iOS, (and coming soon: Android), code on the Mac. The method offers a way to preview your running code directly in the Creo app.

While Creo offers an easy way to preview mobile application code on the Mac, it also offers a native iOS app that can run the Creo code developed on the Mac, so developers can get a true feel for how their code will look on the target device. Testing Creo apps directly on a mobile device is as simple as making sure both the mobile device and the Mac are on the same network, running the Creo player app on the mobile device, and pressing the "Send" key on the Mac app. The app transfers to the device, and runs as any native mobile app normally would.

"Designing and developing mobile apps with traditional tools has always been an involved and time consuming process," says Marco Bambini, founder of Creolabs. By allowing users to combine the design and code process into one workflow, we are enhancing their app development methodology."

Creo developed the CreoKIT framework to allow the execution of iOS and Android code on a Mac without making any major changes. The CreoKIT framework is also available for licensing as a standalone product for developers, offering a way for them to easily port their mobile apps to the Mac in just a few minutes.

"We didn't want to reinvent the wheel, but we knew we needed a way for the Creo development tool to execute mobile code on the Mac," adds Marco. "We knew we needed to come up with a way to merge design with code to give developers the ability to preview the app directly on their Mac, that's when CreoKIT was born."

Creo has plenty of experience with developing unique programming tools. They also created Gravity, which is a small, high-performance language that is class-based, and features a modern syntax, which gives users the ability to make use of object-based programming methods. Visualize Swift, JavaScript, and Smalltalk, all combined into one modern development tool.

The initial development phase of Creo is nearing an end, and Creolabs is ready for beta testers to take their new development tool for a test drive. Mac users who are running Mac OS X 10.10 or higher are welcome to apply to become a beta tester of Creo. Creolabs invites both app designers and developers to test the new tool, as the company would appreciate feedback from both types of prospective users.

The game was programmed by Willie Johnson, Jr, with graphics and level design by Travis Mueller. Matt Campana created the music, and the excellent audio effects.

The game challenges players to design a rover that can travel the furthest distance while dealing with terrain obstacles such as loose rubble, crevasses, and rocky precipices. Set against a graphic outer space background, the space exploration vehicle maneuvers across the imagined rugged landscape, while a counter at the top of the screen shows the distance traveled in that test run. The rovers are designed by using the finger to draw any shape around an engine and adding up to six wheels (which can be resized) on the vehicle. The rover is then launched onto the planet's surface where it moves across the varying terrain. During gameplay, two power-ups are available: a hover boost, which lifts the rover up off the ground, and a speed boost, which propels the craft forward. There is no limit to the number of times a power-up can be used, but there is a re-charging period during which they are unavailable. Players also have access to a bonus feature that launches space rubble into the air. The test run (game) ends when the rover is stuck or no longer able to move forward.

Solaris: rover expedition focuses on distance over speed and is playable in either single player or multiplayer mode. Coins are earned each time a rover is designed and launched, and they can be used later on to enter into the weekly tournament. During these tournaments, Solaris: rover expedition players will compete against each other with their custom-designed rovers to see whose travels the most distance.

With cost-per-acquisition numbers trending upward over the past six months, Appiness couldn't come at a better time. A how-to marketing guide for turning duds into profitable apps.

San Francisco, California - Several different ad and promotion networks publish their cost-per-install (CPI) numbers and have reported an upward trend in recent months. In June 2013 Distimo reported that an app needs 23,000 downloads per day to rise to the Top 50 Free Overall. This means that app developers face a $35,000 /day spend if they want to achieve any real visibility.

"Most iOS developers simply can't afford the development and ongoing optimization costs required to build a freemium app," said Kyle Hartman, Chief Newt at Bright Newt.
