Liberate released - Ad Block Blocker for iOS developers

Liberate released - Ad Block Blocker for iOS developers - Published on 10/16/15

Impala Studios has released Liberate, an Open Source ad-block blocker for app makers who want to keep their apps free. In reaction to the appearance of content-blocking software on iOS devices, Liberate Ad-Block Blocker (LABB for short) gives users the choice: allow ads or buy the app. Developers rely on advertising revenue to provide free apps. Many startups rely on advertising revenue or on the prospect of creating a large user base which can be monetised (with ads) at a later date.

Haarlem, Netherlands - Impala Studios has released LABB - Liberate AdBlock Blocker - on GitHub. This is code for app developers to detect ad-blocking software in iOS. The first release was on the 7th October 2015 and was built in reaction to ad blocking apps such as Been Choice (c) that block advertising in native apps by routing the users over a VPN. Besides damaging app developers' revenues from advertising, these ad blocking apps can track their users' traffic and will start selling their user's attention to advertisers, introducing a new layer between the consumer and the product. Developers rely on advertising revenue to provide free apps.

Frank List, CTO of Impala Studios, had this to say: "Recently we came across an app called Been Choice, which allows iOS users to disable advertisements in native apps. Besides the privacy issues that users of this app will have, as explained on TechCrunch, we think this is a very disturbing development for all app developers, mobile users and innovation in general.

Many innovative ideas and apps are being developed by smaller or one man development companies. But precisely these small app developers will be the first ones to be put out of business because of the lack of advertising revenue. They will not have the resources to be able to handle this vital missing income. In the long run this will result in the mobile market losing an important part of their creativity.

Secondly, consider startups. Many startups rely on advertising revenue or on the prospect of creating a large user base which can be monetised (with ads) at a later date. Without the possibility of advertising revenue, these startups will have a very hard time getting any funding at all in the future, which in the end will result in even less creativity in the app market.

Not only are these ad blockers bad for our business, they are also bad for the businesses of many fellow app developers out there, bad for the end user and bad for overall technical innovation. Ad blockers like Been Choice are only really a success for the owners of the ad-blocking app, who see all the traffic being sent through their own VPN server, with the possibility to sell this very detailed personal data.

Overnight, we developed a system that detects if an end user is using an ad blocker. If this is the case we politely ask the user to disable ad blocking, or we redirect to the paid version of the app.

If all developers implement this system, we foresee that native ad blockers will not become a problem, thus benefitting the entire mobile ecosystem. Download the code on GitHub as open source. Enjoy!"

DriveDx 1.4.1 for Mac - Save yourself from Data Loss and Downtime

A new article has been published at prMac.

DriveDx 1.4.1 for Mac - Save yourself from Data Loss and Downtime - Published on 10/16/15

BinaryFruit has announced the immediate availability of DriveDx 1.4.1, its latest solution for SSD and HDD health diagnostics and monitoring. The most important new feature is support of external USB/FireWire drive S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic on OS X El Capitan. DriveDx 1.4.1, most likely, is the first app on the market that has this feature. Because DriveDx tracks more indicators of impending failure than any other product on the market, users will get advanced warning before their drives fail.

San Francisco, United States - BinaryFruit has announced the release and immediate availability of DriveDx 1.4.1, its latest solution for SSD and HDD health diagnostics and monitoring. The most important new feature is support of external USB/FireWire drive S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic on OS X El Capitan (10.11), as all previous solutions are incompatible with new OS X System Integrity Protection (SIP) functionality. DriveDx 1.4.1, most likely, is the first product on the market that has this feature.

As OS X does not have a comprehensive drive health indicator, DriveDx fills a critical role in measuring the overall health of both SSD and HDD drives. Because DriveDx tracks more indicators of impending failure than any other product on the market, users will get advanced warning before their drives fail. This will allow them to take action to avert the failure, and save themselves from resulting data loss and downtime.

Unlike many other drive health diagnostics utilities that simply check built-in S.M.A.R.T. status, DriveDx performs overall drive health diagnostics using drive health indicators (like SSD wear out / endurance, reallocated bad sectors, offline bad sectors, pending sectors, I/O errors, and more) that most closely correlate with drive failures according to the statistics reported in the latest researches focused on identifying drive failure trends. This gives a user a comprehensive picture of a current drive health status and enables foreseeing potential problems with drive failure and loss of sensitive data. Moreover, DriveDx shows this information on a user-friendly Mac-style interface in an easy-to-understand format.

"Here's a DriveDx triumph. DriveDx showed my just out of AppleCare iMac with two pre-fail conditions for the hard drive. Made appointment and took it to Genius Bar yesterday. Tech looked at DriveDx and was very impressed. Even though out of warranty - they replaced the drive without question," said Michael Sidoric, CapMac User Group Treasurer, ex-Vice President of CapMac.org. "God knows how many dollars and troubles DriveDx saved me since I had several vital FinalCut projects on it."

DriveDx is a combined drive health analysis and forecasting tool. It monitors and analyses changes to S.M.A.R.T. attributes in order to continuously evaluate drive health status and predict drive failures. In addition to "Failed" and "OK" drive statutes DriveDx supports "Warning" and "Failing" statuses indicating that a drive is in a pre-failure status and backup of sensitive data is highly recommended.

DriveDx performs both SSD and HDD health diagnostics. Moreover, it uses a separate set of indicators for SSD and HDD to monitor drive health status. This is particularly important as SSD works different from HDD, and requires a different algorithm to check its health status. Also, SDDs typically are more dependent on firmware than HDDs, and DriveDx has been programmed to support many versions of firmware (please see our website for a complete list of supported firmware).

DriveDx allows configuring the delivery of customized drive status and free space reports by e-mail and therefore does not require user presence to inform about drive status changes. In addition DriveDx can launch built-in drive diagnostics self-tests. Drive self-tests will help to quickly identify if the drive is faulty.

DriveDx is the first utility of its kind to have a real user-friendly Mac-style interface. It is organized in a way that allows a user to view and understand drive status and its performance at a glance. User can switch between different view modes to drill up or down data related to drive health, including S.M.A.R.T. indicators and attributes, drive statistics and errors.

What's New in DriveDx 1.4.1:
* Improved support of OS X El Capitan (10.11)
* (!) Support of external drives diagnostic on OS X El Capitan (10.11)
* Improved support of recent SSD and HDD models
* Improved drive health diagnostic algorithms and heuristics
* Many stability improvements
* Many cosmetic tweaks and fixes
* Issues that could cause the system to freeze on certain Macs has also been addressed

* SSD lifetime left indicator
* Different routines for SSD and HDD health evaluation
* Real-time SSD & HDD health status monitoring
* User friendly and intuitive UI
* Multi-tier warning system that will inform the user about deviations from the normal state of drive attributes

* Drive free space monitoring
* Support of drive short and full (extended) self-tests
* Sending a warning whenever a problem with a Firmware exists
* Saving detailed drive status reports to a file

Assembly 1.0 for iOS Harks a New Era of Graphic Design

Assembly 1.0 for iOS Harks a New Era of Graphic Design - Published on 10/16/15

Pixite LLC has announced the launch of Assembly 1.0, the easiest, most powerful vector design app for iOS devices. Assembly lets users create beautiful logos, characters, icons and illustrative scenes using professional level tools in a simple package that anyone can design with. The key to simplifying the design process and at the same time producing beautiful artwork is Assembly's unique building block approach to design, a concept refined through the input of professional graphic designers.

San Diego, California - Pixite LLC has announced the launch of Assembly 1.0, the easiest, most powerful vector design app for the iPhone and iPad. Assembly lets users create beautiful logos, characters, icons and illustrative scenes using professional level tools in a simple package that anyone can design with.

"Many aspiring creatives have trouble making meaningful artwork with the graphic design software out there today," says Pixite co-founder, Eugene Kaneko. "If you're a professional or have the time and money, software like Adobe Illustrator is a fantastic tool for design. The downside is it's complicated and hard to master, because it encompasses so much. We were determined to build an app from the ground up that is both easy enough for design newcomers to master, yet deep enough to become an essential tool for seasoned designers. The outcome is Assembly."

The key to simplifying the design process and at the same time producing beautiful artwork is Assembly's unique building block approach to design, a concept refined through the input of professional graphic designers. The Pixite development team observed that the best designers would build basic shapes or templates that were repeated, deleted, and combined to create their final work. Based on this, the team was curious whether providing basic, well-designed shapes can elevate the work that non-designers can produce and also provide a shortcut for professional designers without sacrificing the quality of their work.

Exploring this concept, the team hired a group of talented graphic designers to craft basic shapes that could be used for general design work as well as ones around specific themes like space, nature, animals, floral, robots, and cities. With enough variation in shapes, an infinite number of designs of different styles are possible. With that in mind, Assembly comes installed with over 180 shapes and the option to download many more from inside the app. Work submitted by test users from around the world proved that the building block approach delivered on the promise of better design across the board at any skill level.

One of the challenges to the building block approach was connecting shapes precisely and quickly on the artboard to create a design. In response, the development team built an intelligent snapping system that helps align edges, rotate shapes to certain angles, match sizes of various shapes, and create circular designs, all without being overbearing or hindering the design process.

As Assembly users built more intricate and complex artwork, it became obvious that a multi-select and grouping feature was needed to make changes across multiple shapes, make copies of finished objects, and lock down specific design elements. Taking full advantage of the touch device, Assembly uses a novel yet intuitive hold-down-and-drag gesture, a first among graphic design apps, to multi-select and group shapes.

Another challenging but often ignored aspect to graphic design is choosing the right color combination for each project. Assembly corrects this by providing pre-made color palettes that fit the need of almost any design. More seasoned designers can create an unlimited number of custom color palettes using the color swatch or eye-dropper tool. The quality of work that people are able to produce because of the Assembly color palette system is exceptional.

Designing in Assembly means that anything created in the app can be scaled infinitely without losing image quality. Designs can be blown up to fit an iPhone screen, t-shirt, poster, wall, or even a building. Assembly's infinitely zooming artboard also means that designs in Assembly can be highly detailed and extremely large. Assembly work can be exported as high-resolution images in JPEG and PNG formats as well as SVG vector format, allowing professionals to open their designs in desktop applications like Adobe Illustrator.

Anticipating that for many, Assembly will become their go-to design tool, the Pixite team has included project management features like project exporting and automatic iCloud syncing and backup. The exporting of projects through email and text messaging lets artists collaborate with others using non-destructive Assembly project files. iCloud syncing allows artists to work on a project on multiple iOS devices and backs up Assembly files automatically so that they never go missing.

The breadth of artwork that Assembly can create is staggering, ranging from black and white lineart that takes advantage of the built-in stroke options to colorful illustrative sceneries using themed shapes and shadows, to abstract geometric designs overlaid on colorful landscape photographs that can be loaded directly onto the artboard. Simple to use yet fully equipped with tools for professional designers, Assembly is poised to democratize the graphic design industry.

"When we handed Assembly to our testers we didn't know what to expect. We were immediately floored by the work people were sending in. Many of these people had no prior experience in design and yet they were the ones creating the most amazing work. I think that speaks to how exceptional Assembly is," explains Eugene Kaneko.

New Appiness iOS app marketing guide could not come at a better time

A new article has been published at prMac.

New Appiness iOS app marketing guide could not come at a better time - Published on 10/16/15

Marketing is what separates the winners from the losers in the App Store. Plenty of free information on app marketing already exists, but the new Appiness guide from Bright Newt has given iOS developers a step-by-step plan for effectively marketing their apps without breaking the bank. With cost-per-acquisition numbers trending upward over the past six months, Appiness couldn't come at a better time. A how-to marketing guide for turning duds into profitable apps.

San Ramon, California - Several different ad and promotion networks publish their cost-per-install (CPI) numbers and have reported an upward trend in recent months. Chartboost, for example, showed an increase from $1.99 per install in March 2015 to $2.21 in June 2015. Fiksu reported a $1.79 CPI in November 2015. These numbers represent a huge problem for iOS developers.

To help address this problem, Bright Newt has released Appiness, an iOS app marketing guide. Appiness could not come at a better time. In June 2013 Distimo reported that an app needs 23,000 downloads per day to rise to the Top 50 Free Overall. This means that app developers face a $35,000 /day spend if they want to achieve any real visibility.

"Most iOS developers simply can't afford the development and ongoing optimization costs required to build a freemium app," said Kyle Hartman, Chief Newt at Bright Newt. "And once they do finish an app, they can't afford to advertise and can't get their revenue-per-install high enough to make back their money. It's a Catch-22."

The Bright Newt team wanted to give iOS developers a hand by providing a how-to marketing guide for turning duds into profitable apps. Plenty of free information on app marketing already exists, but Appiness provides step-by-step instructions for inexpensive tactics, as well as "true tales of appiness" from successful developers.

The Appiness guide comes in three different packages at three price points - Basic Appiness for $38, Extra Appiness for $69, and Total Appiness for $118.

Each package comes with an assortment of other tools and resources, such as submission and launch day checklists, comprehensive spreadsheets of app review sites and app-related services, various templates, and interviews with thought leaders in the mobile industry.

The bottom line is this: Scrappy marketing is what separates the winners from the losers in the app business. If iOS developers make a unique, beautiful, and entertaining (or helpful) app, and then execute a smart, inexpensive marketing plan, then their apps will gain visibility, get more downloads, and make more money. Appiness is the winners' new, not-so-secret weapon.

Cupertino, California - San Francisco-based app development firm LoftLab has announced that it has launched its highly anticipated iOS app Radio Royale, which combines a radio player with social networking in a unique and creative new way. Available in the App Store at no-cost, Radio Royale essentially has four main aspects: Radio, Video, Chat, Art and Playlist:

* Radio: Users can access thousands of FM and AM radio stations broadcasting live within their local coverage area - and all at no cost. And unlike many other apps with radio playing capacity, the digital sound quality delivered by Radio Royale is extraordinarily crisp and clear.

* Watch: In addition to listening users can also watch and enjoy a huge range of video content, including: music videos, live performances, rare recordings & artist interviews. Users can watch the music video for the currently playing song by simply tapping the "play" icon at anytime. Additionally, the search function allows users to instantly browse videos for any song or artist.

* Chat: Users can see who else in the global Radio Royale community is listening to the same radio station, and chat with them in real time via in-app messaging. All users get to pick aliases, and so privacy is not a concern.

* Art: When listening to music tracks, users have the option of viewing the fullscreen album cover on their device. Or, they can listen to the song (or news, or talk, or anything else they feel like) in the background.

* Playlist: One of Radio Royale's most impressive features is that users can create a customized list of favorite radio stations simply by tapping the "heart" icon next to it on the list. Users can also switch between their favorite radio stations from their device's lock screen.

Other Radio Royale special features include:
* The ability to search for specific radio stations
* A "Recently Played" section to see radio stations that have been previously accessed
* Easily accessible volume control and mute button
* An outstanding, professional-looking interface that features each station's logo

"Ordinary radio apps are boring, and it's not long before most people head back to their personal music library or to iTunes," commented Michael Chow of LoftLab. "But with Radio Royale, users can find great new radio stations, listen to cool new tracks, and meet new friends - and all from a single app!"

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
* Requires iOS 7.1 or later
* 23.7 MB

SOOMLA Announces 3 Partnerships to Expand Rapidly Growing GROW Network

A new article has been published at prMac.

SOOMLA Announces 3 Partnerships to Expand Rapidly Growing GROW Network - Published on 10/15/15

Leading in-game data platform, SOOMLA is announcing 3 new partnerships to expand growth of its burgeoning GROW data network. Partners include gaming giant Chukong, creator of the popular Cocos2d-x game engine. SOOMLA's technology will enable partner platform developers to predict user spend likelihood in current games, and to drive next-game design based on data-driven recommendations. SOOMLA's unified API transforms complex integrations into one line of code.

Tel Aviv, Israel - =SOOMLA, a leading in-game data platform, is announcing 3 new partnerships to expand growth of its burgeoning GROW data network. Leading the list of new partners is gaming giant Chukong, creator of the popular Cocos2d-x game engine. SOOMLA's technology will be incorporated into Chukong's new SDKBOX live operations platform to empower Cocos2d-x developers with paying user insights. With 5000 live games and a soaring rate of 30% adoption of GROW, SOOMLA expects this partnership to attract thousands of new games into its data sharing community.

Earlier this year after securing its $5.5 million series A round, SOOMLA launched the GROW data network to help developers spot "whales", top spending users, in their games. The integration with SDKBOX will enable game developers to uncover user spend likelihood and drive marketing decisions with this data. Kai Zhao, general manager of Chukong USA commended the partnership and said: "We're happy to expand SDKBOX offering with SOOMLA, a company that shares our passion for open source technology and developer communities".

The new offering by SOOMLA is a collaborative data network for mobile games that analyzes deep user behavior to spot loyal users and top spenders. GROW harnesses cutting edge algorithms to predict how likely users are to pay in a specific mobile game based on their in-app purchase history in other games. Developers who opt in to the network share their data and in return unlock user-level insights that drive critical marketing decisions.

Leveraging behavioral data from thousands of games in the GROW network, SOOMLA also offers a new game recommendation service that combines data analysis and expert consulting. When a game hits certain usage volume, its users are analyzed in overlapping games to produce an insights report. The service enables game studios to make data-driven decisions for designing their next title to appeal to their user audience.

The cooperation with Chukong is only one piece of the puzzle. SOOMLA is also partnering with key in-app purchase tools prime31 and Stan's Assets to expand its network offering. As Yaniv Nizan the CEO, explains: "We initially built the GROW network to serve our community but as we launched we received requests from developers who are using other IAP solutions to join the network. We are allowing developers to choose their IAP plugin and independently decide if they want to participate in GROW and send data to the community".

This announcement comes on the heels of an increasing race to in-app purchase data land grab. On September 21st 2015, rival game engine Unity announced new in-app purchase features for its next release. Unity also hinted that they are after the data by explaining that the IAP feature will report directly to their Analytics platform. SOOMLA's take on the data stems from its community oriented, grassroots approach to technology. As an open source shop, the company is manifesting its sharing philosophy to democratize mobile analytics. While Unity has yet to speak publicly of its strategy around in-app purchase data collection, it is hard to say whether developers will benefit from the collective data pool, or will Unity rather keep the data closed. "We truly believe in empowering developers with each other's data, and we're challenging Unity to join hands with us as well," says Nizan.

PFiddlesoft Releases Version 3.5.0 of Its PFAssistive Framework

A new article has been published at prMac.

PFiddlesoft Releases Version 3.5.0 of Its PFAssistive Framework - Published on 10/15/15

PFiddlesoft announces the release of a new version 3.5.0 of its PFAssistive Framework. The PFiddlesoft Frameworks help developers write assistive Macintosh applications for persons with disabilities using Apple's Accessibility and Quartz Event Taps APIs on OS X. The PFAssistive Framework was updated to add support for client applications that are written using the new Swift programming language. It also adds support for new accessibility features in OS X 10.11 El Capitan, and more.

Quechee, Vermont - PFiddlesoft is proud to announce that it has updated its PFAssistive Framework to version 3.5.0. The PFiddlesoft Frameworks are two frameworks that help developers write assistive Macintosh applications for persons with disabilities using Apple's Accessibility and Quartz Event Taps APIs on OS X.

The PFAssistive Framework was updated to add support for client applications that are written using the new Swift programming language. It also adds support for new accessibility features introduced by Apple late last month in OS X v10.11 El Capitan, improved power, speed and efficiency, and a few minor bug fixes.

The PFAssistive Framework was created in 2003 as the engine driving PFiddlesofts highly regarded UI Browser application for developers and for users of Apples AppleScript GUI Scripting technology. The framework supports and enhances Apple's Accessibility API. The PFEventTaps Framework was created in 2007 as the engine underlying PFiddlesofts free Event Taps Testbench utility for developers. The framework supports and enhances Apple's Quartz Event Taps API. Both frameworks have been revised and updated over a period of years, and they have demonstrated their power and reliability in PFiddlesofts commercial and free developer utilities.

The frameworks are written using Objective-C. They support the Intel 64-bit architecture using reference counted memory management or ARC, and they support client applications written in Objective-C or Swift.

Developers can now license the PFiddlesoft Frameworks for distribution or for use with their own products that use Apple's Accessibility and Quartz Event Taps technologies. The frameworks may be licensed free of charge for personal use or for distribution or use with a free software product. A modest license fee is required to distribute or use the frameworks with a product for which payment is requested or required. Source code is available for a separate fee. Different terms apply to large or established commercial software developers. For more information, visit the PFiddlesoft Frameworks website.

Formed by Bill Cheeseman to develop and market Macintosh software based on Apple's Accessibility technologies, PFiddlesoft(TM) has unmatched experience controlling the Macintosh Graphical User Interface using AppleScript and other technologies. PFiddlesoft distributes applications written by Bill Cheeseman and formerly distributed by PreFab Software, Inc., including UI Browser, UI Actions, Event Taps Testbench, and the PFiddlesoft Frameworks. These products for Mac OS X carry on the tradition of PreFab Player, a seminal product released for the classic Mac OS in 1994. UI Browser was first released in 2003 to support Apple's GUI Scripting and Accessibility technologies. It was followed in 2004 by UI Actions, implementing "universal attachability" for AppleScript, and in 2007 by Event Taps Testbench, a free developer utility to explore Quartz Event Taps. The PFiddle Collection was introduced in 2010. It is a growing collection of useful and fun Macintosh software. All Material and

New Mobile App Makes Finding Platonic Friends Easier Than Ever Before

New Mobile App Makes Finding Platonic Friends Easier Than Ever Before - Published on 10/15/15

New to iOS and Android, from the makers of the original community website patook.com, comes Patook, the free-to-play social app that helps people find friends and brings communities closer together. The basic premise of Patook is simple and its functionality twofold; the developers have designed it to bring people and communities together by 'matching' like-minded individuals, and providing a forum for discussions in their local area.

Kirkland, Washington - New to iOS and Android, from the makers of the original community website, comes Patook, the free-to-play social app that helps people find friends and brings communities closer together.

The basic premise of Patook is simple and its functionality twofold; the developers have designed it to bring people and communities together by 'matching' like-minded individuals, and providing a forum for discussions in their local area.

The ideal app for those who have just moved to a new neighborhood or country; started university; busy professionals and parents; or who are just shy about approaching people face-to-face. Patook takes the struggle out of socializing by using powerful matching algorithms to instantly find people in a user's locality that they might get on with, and providing a quick and easy way to connect with them. From making new friends to hang out with, finding a group to pursue shared interests together, or just chatting to similar souls online, Patook's expert matchmaking brings people together and helps them connect. Note: this is not a dating service, but, of course, who knows where new connections will lead!

Alternatively, for those who want to connect en masse, Patook introduces the new concept of 'beacons'. Beacons allow users to participate in conversations happening in their local community; real-time, any time.

Getting started is easy. Simply enter a username, age, and location on the welcome screen (real names do not have to be used), then create a password. Join as an individual or couple, as desired. Profiles can be set up from scratch, but the option to sign up using a Facebook account is also seamlessly incorporated, expediting the process of uploading photos and data. Patook never posts anything to Facebook, so users can be sure that friends and family won't be spammed with requests for candy or help on the farm! It is also pleasingly free from pesky ads and in-app purchases. Patook can use the device location to suggest more specific connects in that area, but otherwise the app assumes the user is in the center of their sign-up city.

Once logged in, start exploring the neighborhood!

Patook's homepage presents an initial list of interesting people nearby, displaying key data and a brief introductory excerpt from their profile. This list can be sorted by age, gender, distance, or new users, or further refined by setting up rules to filter the results based on a user-created points system. For instance, if the desired match is a short, Italian man who enjoys waterskiing, use the points system to create rules allocating 10 points for being male, 5 points for height between 4'5 and 5', 10 points for speaking Italian, and 15 points for an interest in waterskiing. Any person who meets these criteria appears on the homepage with 40 points. This is a really handy feature that greatly speeds up the selection process. Users make the rules and decide on their parameters, and the points system is completely private, so no-one's feelings will be hurt. Message users through Patook's secure messaging system. Email notifications can also be activated, if desired. Patook will
never deluge inboxes, and email addresses are not public.

A charming feature of Patook is the mutual matches system. Users may give each other a star rating and those people rated are shown in the 'Rated' tab. The 'Mutual' tab then combines these with people who have also rated that user, indicating a high likelihood of compatibility. Patook even uses these ratings to predict how people will rate others, and suggest ever-more-accurate matches.

The other main feature of Patook is the Beacon system. Beacons are discussion groups set up around millions of beacon points worldwide and may be as small as a coffee shop, or as vast as a city, covering locations such as universities, malls, airports... almost anywhere! Beacons allow people to participate in conversations in their local area, or start their own beacon and encourage others to talk about the issues that matter to them; whether that's town politics or the flavors on offer at the local ice-cream parlor. Chances are there are other people out there who are thinking about the same thing and want to share their thoughts. Posts are visible to all users within a certain radius of the beacon and anyone within range can join the conversation. Whether lunar moth or social butterfly, everyone drawn to the light of the beacon can find beings on their wavelength. Beacons give individuals the opportunity to be a voice in their community.

Once up and running on Patook, users can increase their visibility and search rankings by improving their profiles. The 'Visitors' menu shows how many people are accessing that profile and how they interact with it, providing feedback on how to tailor profiles to stand out from the crowd. Earn profile badges and increase rankings by getting involved with the community and connecting with others.

Patook is safe and secure - users control who sees their information and how much. For example, there are options to show profiles only to men, women, or couples, or only people who score enough points on the ratings criteria. This thoughtful app also ensures built-in anti-harrassment, by providing the option of one-shot-contact; if the first message sent is not responded to, the sender cannot message that user again. Patook takes privacy very seriously and acts swiftly on any reports of misuse.

Part of the beauty of this social app is that a network of friends is not required to get started - Patook matches potential friends and provides a forum for group discussions. The only 'rules' are to be polite and treat others with respect. Who could argue with that?

The touch interface is intuitive and elegantly simple, with well-thought-out, clutter-free menus, and easy-to-understand icons and styling. Patook provides pick-up-and-play accessibility suitable for everybody.

For those who want to find friends, love, or hobby groups; learn from someone with different interests and backgrounds, or share their skills and experience with others; to have a say on local issues, or just find someone to chat to on the bus, Patook puts the whole world in the palm of your hand!

Patook LLC is a company based in the greater Seattle area. We've been working hard on the site for a couple of years now and just launched the app for our users. We want to build a safe and reliable way for people to make awesome new friends. We believe that there are people who would be great friends to each other but who will probably never meet: students who are cooped up studying all day or who can't find people who share their interests in their departments; new moms who barely have time to go out, let alone seek out new friends; couples who have moved to a new country and who don't know anybody there; people who have moved for work; and just normal people who have not made new long-lasting friends since high school or college, or who don't have any great friends. A new article has been published at prMac.

DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.7 with El Capitan updates and more - Published on 10/15/15

DEVONtechnologies, LLC updates all editions of its intelligent information and document manager DEVONthink as well as the smart notebook DEVONnote. DEVONthink and DEVONnote help its users classify and organize documents effortlessly with unique artificial intelligence. Version 2.8.7 brings compatibility changes for OS X El Capitan, a faster and more reliable synchronization, and improved Evernote import. The updates are free and recommended for all users.

Coeur d'Alene, Idaho - OS X El Capitan is out and DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.7 add some necessary changes for it. In addition the built-in synchronization both between Macs and from Mac to iOS has been overhauled for reliability and speed. Importing or indexing files is up to twice as fast as in previous versions. DEVONthink 2.8.7 improves taking over notes from Evernote by grouping attachments and cross-linking them. It imports all images regardless how they were originally created by Evernote.

Other improvements in DEVONthink 2.8.7 include more comfortable navigation within PDF documents, better PDF printing, and fullscreen support for videos from web views. The extension of text files containing tabular data is no longer changed which increases the compatibility to third-party applications. Rebuilding databases retains all dates and directly imported email messages, e.g. dragged into DEVONthink, support additional metadata. An automatically updated user agent string improves compatibility to modern websites on OS X Yosemite and El Capitan. Finally, the Markdown and SkimNotes engines have been updated to their latest versions.

The updates also bring further internal optimizations and bug fixes that improve their performance and reliability.

"DEVONthink and DEVONnote 2.8.7 bring the usual compatibility fixes that are necessary when Apple releases a major new version of OS X. But that's not enough for us so we added an update for both Mac and iOS syncs as well as better import from Evernote. It's a multi-device multi-app world and every release of DEVONthink and DEVONnote will bring more improvements here to make it easy to keep your documents at hand at all times," comments Eric Bohnisch-Volkmann, President of DEVONtechnologies.
