Perdrix Apps has announced TurboWords 1.0, their new spelling app released exclusively for iOS devices. In TurboWords, students record words given at school, and then play them back in a spelling test. All the words can be recorded in one stretch - It takes barely a minute to record 20 words. There are a variety of options, including one to have the app pronounce the sound of the word as it is typed. A progress bar and a word count show indication of how far the student is.
Gatineau (QC) Canada - Perdrix Apps has announced that their second app, TurboWords, is now available exclusively for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. TurboWords is a spelling app, where students record words given at school, and play them back in a spelling test. Unlike other apps, all the words can be recorded in one stretch. It takes barely a minute to record 20 words.
"Seeing, saying, hearing and writing your words will help you succeed in school tests" says Stephane Blais, a parent of two school-age boys, who got the idea after vainly searching for a proper app to record words, given at school every week. Stephane helped developer Claude Labelle, who is also a parent of a primary school girl, who used the app successfully throughout her 6th grade, while it was in development. The children helped debug and made suggestions to improve TurboWords. "If it takes too long or if it's too difficult to record their words, children will be discouraged" added Stephane. In TurboWords, recording is easy and quick. The student just tap a big red Record button, say all their words, one after the other, and then tap the Stop button.
After quickly recording words, the student can hear them back by touching them. It's easy to re-record individual words (a long press), move or delete them. The app strips any silence found at the beginning or end of words, greatly improving the playback during the spelling test.
The spelling test is where the words are played back, in order or randomly. The student hears the words and types or writes them on paper. There is a variety of options, including one to have the app pronounce the sound of the word as it is typed. Standard audio controls Play/Pause, Previous/Forward are used to control the playback of words. The app can also automatically skip to the next word after a time limit set by the user. A progress bar and a word count show indication of how far the student is.
The spelling test can then be corrected; learnt words can be checked as such, while incorrect words can be retried in the spelling test, or corrected on-screen. Once a word is marked as correct, new spelling tests will feature instant feedback (right or wrong animations) and automatic correction. A positive-reinforcement star shows progress as words are learnt, and shines when all words are correct.
Words are arranged in groups, students can create a new group for the words to learn this week, for example. TurboWords can become multi-user through an in-app purchase. Users can be identified by name and photo. There is help on every screen.

Toronto based Zevrix Solutions has announced Output Factory Server 1.2.3, a compatibility update to its output workflow automation solution for Adobe InDesign. Output Factory Server automates printing and exporting from InDesign by processing files from hot folders. The software offloads output tasks to a central system leaving operator workstations free from the output process. The new version makes Output Factory Server compatible with the recently released Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan.
Toronto (ON) Canada - Zevrix Solutions has announced the release of Output Factory Server 1.2.3, a compatibility update to its solution to automate printing, exporting and post-processing from Adobe InDesign. Developed originally for a major magazine publisher in the United States to free up their operator computers from outputting InDesign files, the software automates InDesign workflow by processing files from watched hot folders.
The new version makes Output Factory Server compatible with the recently released Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan and is offered as a free update to licensed users.

Dearborn Heights, Michigan - Mobile Montessori has announced that they will be be publishing educational apps for Apple TV. Their first Apple TV app, The Hundred Board - Math, will be available on the very first day of the new Apple TV release.
"Imagine children actually using the living room TV for something constructive!" explained Harin Wickremasinghe, App Designer at Mobile Montessori. "We see families sitting down together to complete educational puzzles and activities. Parents will enjoy being able to observe their children from a distance as they complete tasks within the apps. Classrooms can run group activities as each student passes the Siri remote from one person to the next. There's a lot we're all going to do with the new Apple TV, and we are happy to bring you quality, educational content for children that will turn screen time into quality time!"
The Hundred Board is a fun and educational exercise that helps children with their counting from 1 to 100. The task is simple: Assemble the board by finding and placing the number tiles in sequence.
Activities:
* Sequence (With Control) - Assemble the Hundred Board with the aid of seeing control numbers on the board to know what number to search for next.
* Sequence (standard) - This activity tests a child's knowledge of numbers by having to search for the next number in sequence without any assistance.
* Counting by Evens & Odds - As an introduction to skip-counting, children can assemble the Hundred Board by either Even or Odd numbers only.
Features:
* All activities are self-correcting
* Every number can be heard aloud when it is placed into position, reinforcing the name of each number for the child
* A score is presented for parents and teachers to evaluate a child's progress

Find My Stuff prevents loss and theft:
Find My Stuff is an iOS app that helps people keep up with their valuable belongings. According to the Find My Stuff stories, the mobile app has helped many users find their car keys, as well as cars in crowded parking lots. Other valuable objects that have been successfully tracked include musical equipment, cameras, purses and wallets, family pets, bicycles, laptops and mobile devices, airport luggage, and children.
Find My Stuff tracks objects via Bluetooth Beacons:
The Find My Stuff app communicates with beacons, also known as Beacons for use with iOS devices, in order to track the beacon's precise location. The app uses distance proximity to determine if objects leave the range. For instance, if the app distance setting is set to 20 feet, an alert will be sent to the mobile device if the beacon (and the object to which it's attached) move beyond the 20-foot range. Some examples of how this prevents loss or theft include:
* A thief grabs a purse while the owner is distracted
* A pet or child runs away while the owner/parent is distracted
* A person lays their laptop down, walks off and forgets it
* A car is being stolen out of the driveway
* Car keys are lost
* Driver forgets where they parked in huge parking lot
The app uses the Maps functionality on mobile devices in order to find the precise location of the beacon. Items that are lost or stolen can be tracked in real-time via the Find My Stuff app.

Because the Find My Stuff app uses Bluetooth technology to track and locate items, past versions of the app have drained battery life from smartphones and other mobile devices of users. The developers have added a new battery improvement feature that reduces the battery drain and extends battery life while the app is in use.
Previous versions of the app gave no indication of the battery life that was left in the mobile device. This was determined to be inefficient as users could not tell the amount of remaining battery life while using the app. The new battery indicator provides users with an accurate percentage of real-time battery life usage.
Find My Stuff alerts:
The latest version of Find My Stuff has upgraded the alerts feature. Find My Stuff uses alerts in a couple of different ways.
1) Users can press a button within the app and the beacon will emit an alert. This is useful for finding lost car keys or other misplaced items.
2) Users can set the distance proximity settings within the app, and if the beacon reaches or exceeds that range, an alert is emitted. This is useful for keeping up with children or pets, and preventing theft of items.
