While battling enemy ships, a player needs to fire cannons at them and avoid their attack. All of this means that you will have to plan carefully and think ahead. And just when you think you've got the hang of it, there's always something else to challenge you.
Tamak combines elements of classic puzzle and strategy games to create a unique experience that is unlike anything else on the market. It's distinct puzzle game elements make for a familiar feel, which in turn makes the core mechanic easy to grasp despite it's unconventional nature. Anawiki Games has announced Avalon Legends Solitaire 2 for OS X. Blending solitaire gameplay with kingdom-building progression, this sequel casts the player in the role of the Royal Druid as he seeks to gather resources through the use of his magic cards, and rebuild the kingdom in Arthur's absence. Avalon Legends Solitaire 2 introduces a great deal more gameplay in between the levels.The game features 300 levels and high-definition graphics optimized for large screens and Retina displays.
Stargard Szczecinski, Poland - Anawiki Games has announced the release of Avalon Legends Solitaire 2, a highly-entertaining blend of solitaire gameplay and kingdom building. It is the third game in the company's Avalon series, following up on the success of both Runes of Avalon and the original Avalon Legends Solitaire, which was released in 2011.
The game is currently available exclusively through the developer's website, and will be released on major portals and the Mac App Store in May. An iOS version for iPad and iPhone is also in the works.
"The idea behind the original Avalon Legends Solitaire was to take two things that have always worked well for us - the Avalon setting, and solitaire games - and blend them together," says Roman Budzowski, Anawiki owner and lead developer, "It seemed like a sure recipe for a hit, and sure enough, the game did well, so we knew we'd have to do a sequel sooner or later."
The sequel's story begins shortly after the events of the original game. Having saved King Arthur's life, the Druids of Avalon have formed a close alliance with Camelot and maintain a permanent presence in Arthur's court in the form of the Royal Druid, Mallard. A time of peace follows, only to be interrupted by a goblin invasion. With Camelot lying in ruins and Arthur away at war, the player takes on the role of Mallard as he seeks to gather resources and rebuild the kingdom.
Although the solitaire mechanics stick close to the model established by the first game, Avalon Legends Solitaire 2 introduces a great deal more gameplay in between the levels.
"After the original Avalon Legends Solitaire, we did another solitaire game in a different setting, called Seven Seas Solitaire," explains Budzowski, "One thing we discovered through that game is that players really enjoy building things, so we decided to bring that back into the Avalon world, but in an even more central way. Building is really the primary objective of the game now, and playing solitaire is how you do that."
By beating solitaire levels, the player earns the three resources needed to rebuild Camelot: Gold, Food and Materials. The player must then choose carefully how to prioritize his reconstruction efforts; the buildings are not merely cosmetic upgrades to the kingdom screen, but provide tangible benefits to the player, producing additional resources, allowing the purchase of power-ups and more.
Avalon Legends Solitaire 2 was a year and a half in the making, and the effort shows. There are 300 levels to play, 30 buildings to construct and a whopping 24 different power-ups to purchase, each with its own unique effects on the gameplay. The artwork is gorgeous, and all of it was crafted at 2048 x 1536 resolution, so it's crisp and detailed even on larger screens and Retina displays.
Based on their performance, players are awarded a one-, two- or three-star grade for each level. Three stars are only awarded for completely clearing a level, which can become quite tricky as the game progresses. There's no limit to the number of attempts a player can make in order to chase that elusive third star, however, so the game offers a huge number of hours of play as well as lots of replay value.

San Francisco, California - May is Better Hearing and Speech Month and The iMums, a children's educational technology review site, is celebrating by holding their fourth annual "Let's Talk: Speech and Communication" Event. During the event The iMums will highlight free and discounted speech therapy apps, giveaways and reviews. The iMums, founded by four tech-savvy moms from four corners of the globe, will also feature speech therapy news and resources, publishing a series of Speech Therapy-related articles from SLPs.
"This year's theme is '"Early Intervention Counts" and we want to highlight awareness of speech delays and disorders in children, and of the importance of seeking professional help if you are concerned about your child's speech. As a parent, I truly believe that if something doesn't seem right with speech or your child's development, you should get it checked out sooner rather than later," said iMum Alison Hirst. "Early intervention made a key impact in my son's life, he has gotten speech therapy as well as using a variety of apps on the iPad which has helped him today in school."
"As well as featuring app reviews, sales and giveaways all month long, we will be holding a promo-code party, and thanks to the support of Speech app Developers Pocket SLP, Hamaguchi Apps, Language and Learning Steps, and Abitalk, we will also be giving away an iPad Mini during the event." said iMum Mary Mahon of California.
Better Hearing and Speech Month is a cause near and dear to The iMums' hearts because several of The iMums have children in Speech Therapy, Mahon said. Mahon's own three children have all benefited from speech therapy, including a daughter, 8, who has Childhood Apraxia of Speech, a severe speech problem where the tongue and mouth have trouble forming words. The iMums will also be celebrating May 14 as the third annual Apraxia Awareness Day.
"When my daughter was 3, she needed to practice her speech therapy every day at home, but she really resisted. Then we discovered iPad apps that got her engaged and willing to do her daily speech therapy practice," Mahon said. "That's how I began researching and reviewing apps." "Having seen first-hand how useful apps can be for engaging children in Speech Therapy we want to spotlight apps that can be used by both speech language pathologists and by parents at home to get children engaged and participating in their therapy sessions"
A list of speech therapy apps on sale and giveaways will be updated daily on The iMums site. The iMums Facebook page also will be kept current with reviews, giveaways and price drops. AntiAlias is an effect that removes 'stair-step' blocks that occur, also known as aliasing, from photographed or 3D rendered images. The first process of this plugin uses FXAA (Fast Approximate Anti-aliasing). Other processes include High Frequency Noise Removal, Soften Radius, and Soften Amount. To adjust these features, users simply move the 'slider' associated with each tool to create the preferred look.
Fast Noise Reduction can be dropped onto a selected clip to process noise reduction quickly. Within the parameters of this effect, there are four noise reduction tools to choose from, which include Spatial, Threshold, Despeckle, and Temporal. Spatial is recommended for high frequency, otherwise known as 'fine' noise. Threshold is used for light grain, while Despeckle is used for uneven grain, or removing noise from smooth gradients or solid colors. Temporal should be used for larger grain and noise patterns. Parameters include Smoothness, Radius, Amount, and Noise Reduction Amount.
