District 13 is the only remaining place on Earth where the people are still free. They founded the Resistance, the sole fighting force for freedom and the mankind�s last hope, led by a man called Punk. The brutal army of war machines is at the doorstep of District 13. AlphaTopics is an augmentative communication (AAC) app aimed at people with unclear speech (dysarthria) and language difficulties (aphasia) from stroke, traumatic brain injury, ALS, Parkinson's disease, and cerebral palsy.
The app works by bringing an alphabet board and a topic board together in one application with all the benefits of technology: sound, visual feedback, adaptable settings, and portability. The speaker simply touches the topic they want to talk about, and then touches the first letter of each word they say. AlphaTopics lets the person with unclear speech speak naturally while giving the conversation partner enough context to understand better. With AlphaTopics, there's no more spelling out whole words or fixing typos. And, less waiting for the listener means the conversation keeps moving along.
Pointing to the first letter of each word not only gives the listener more information about the word, it also encourages the speaker to slow down and separate words, actually making each word clearer. Intelligibility of sentences is reported to improve 25% on average when using an alphabet board. Pointing to the topic before speaking narrows the range of possibilities for the listener, providing context. Studies show that using a topic cue increases word understanding by an average of 28%.
With AlphaTopics, the listener can hear the letters or topic selected. This means they can stay focused on the speaker and the conversation instead of staring at the device. Communication is faster and clearer using this simple speech supplementation strategy.
Previously, people with speech difficulties had to rely on paper-based boards that easily became ratty and worn out. Now, with AlphaTopics, the functionality of both an alphabet board and a topic board are always available on an iPhone or iPad in one convenient and customizable app.

Learners can be inspired by over 8,000 hand-picked glogs and resources covering 80 topics across 9 disciplines.
Boston, Massachusetts - A quarter of a million people around the world are now carrying a library of 11,000 high-quality learning resources on their iPads, and a tool for creating content wherever inspiration hits. It attracts left-brainers and right-brainers simultaneously and offers an experience on the border of art and science.
Munich, Germany - In a recent interview with the TheAppleGoogle, Jurgen Richter-Gebert, the author of the popular maths-inspired creative drawing app iOrnament, talks about the long way from the first drafts to an internationally well-known app with almost half a million active users and 1,700 user ratings.
The app allows to create hand drawn symmetric patterns based on the rules of the 17 crystallographic wallpaper groups, that are well known in mathematics. In the interview the independent developer, head of science-to-touch(TM) and math professor Professor Richter-Gebert, reveals that the development history of iOrnament actually dates back to 1986, when he wrote a similar program on contemporary hardware for a big exhibition on symmetry as a student.
"Already then, the way, in which the ornament drawing program combines strict rules with creativity, immediately connected to people and made it a very popular exhibit. Over the years I have created several versions of this basic idea for various platforms and used in hands-on mathematics exhibitions. With the advent of the iPad the desire grew to have such a science/creativity tool optimized for touch driven input devices. This was the birth hour of the iOrnament App. The ultimate design goal was to have an app that -while still being mathematically correct- allows for true artistic expression." comments the app developer in the interview.
Since its release in mid 2012 the drawing app and creativity tool has attracted users from many different areas of interest. He says: "the users I know of are between 2 and 80 years old, they are artists, scientists, creative people, relaxation seekers, playful kids, craftsmen,..."
iOrnament has been widely taken up and is used in schools and universities to show the beauty of maths. It has also launched a world exhibition, was exhibited at events such as the Open Day of the Technical University Munich as frequently used by fashion and accessory designers.

Black Lemon Dev today announces TaxiCheck 1.0.1, its new travel/lifestyle app developed for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. TaxiCheck helps you to determine if your taxi driver follows the fastest route to your destination. This happens in a live view which shows the optimal route and your currently driven route. The app also displays the expected fare for your ride on the same screen. In addition, TaxiCheck can calculate a fare for any given route world wide.
Castrop-Rauxel, Germany - Today, Black Lemon Dev is proud to announce that TaxiCheck 1.0.1 for iOS has been released in all regions. TaxiCheck is an app that helps you to determine if your taxi driver follows the fastest route to your destination. This happens in a live view which shows the optimal route and your currently driven route. Also it displays the expected fare for your ride on the same screen. Furthermore, TaxiCheck is able to calculate a fare for any given route world wide.
"A lot of people we know are unsure about the correctness of their taxi fares. So we decided to build an application for them that helps them while they are in the taxi. Currently there are around 100 taxi rates all over the world with the majority of them being in the US. This number is steadily growing as we discover new rates through research or also from our customers." said Torben Richter, Developer of TaxiCheck
TaxiCheck is completely free of charge. "I've always been a big supporter of letting your customers test your app to the fullest extent before investing money in it. Of course there is a option to remove the ads from the app. But this is by no means necessary to use all the features TaxiCheck brings to you." continued Torben Richter.
