DEVONthink and DEVONnote help its users classify and organize documents effortlessly with unique artificial intelligence. Version 2.8.5 adds support for ebooks and Textbundle files. It also comes with better scanner support and PDF annotations. The updates are free and recommended for all users.
Coeur d'Alene, Idaho - DEVONtechnologies, LLC has updated all editions of its intelligent information and document manager DEVONthink as well as the smart notebook DEVONnote. DEVONthink 2.8.5 natively indexes unprotected e-books and Textbundle files. Users can search for e-books using DEVONthink's advanced search or convert them to plain text. Only for displaying their content a third-party Quick Look plugin might be necessary.
The enhanced scanner support now allows users to scan all front and all back pages separately. Later both batches can be merged to a complete document with just one click. Merging arbitrary documents determines the best file format automatically. Unknown files are attached to a created RTF document. PDF annotations are easier to enter and layouted more consistently in version 2.8.5.
DEVONthink Pro Office allows to share documents even with Windows users. Its integrated web server lets them find and view documents or even add new ones. Version 2.8.5 improves performance and password protection. Links in Markdown documents and formatted notes are better handled, too.
All editions including DEVONnote 2.8.5 allow to build smart groups matching multiple tags. Finder tags are matched to existing labels by color when importing documents. Finally, multiple selected documents or groups can be exported as one template. Users can so even easier build their own project templates that create entire often-used group structures with a single click.
The updates to version 2.8.5 bring some more optimizations for OS X Yosemite and improve their performance and reliability, too.

Starting with this new version DEVONthink indexes ePub and iBooks books natively and lets you convert them if you need to. Better annotations make working with PDFs more comfortable. Being able to programmatically access and manipulate files and folders locally stored on the FileMaker Server host computer allows FileMaker solutions to provide extended features such as importing and exporting data through a web interface.
About 64-bit architecture:
FileMaker started using 64-bit architecture for the web publishing engine in FileMaker Server 12, and made 64-bit architecture mandatory for all components of FileMaker Server with the release of FileMaker Server 13. Therefore FileMaker plug-ins need to be built for 64-bit architecture in order to function with FileMaker Server 13 or 14 and in the web engine of FileMaker Server 12.
FileMaker Pro gained support for 64-bit architecture with the release of version 14. Users can choose whether to use FileMaker Pro 14 as 32-bit or 64-bit application. However, if plug-ins are used they must match the architecture of the FileMaker Pro application. It will take some time before all plug-ins are updated to support 64-bit architecture natively. So, if a user needs to use 32-bit plug-ins with FileMaker Pro 14 it is necessary to run FileMaker Pro in the 32-bit mode as well. On a Mac it is as easy as opening the Get Info dialog for the application and enable the option to run the app in 32-bit mode. Arguably every mobile phone user has experienced the same phenomenon: in a public place, he hears "his" ringtone, reaches for his iPhone... and finds out that it was quietly sleeping. As all mobiles in the world share the same handful of ringtones, it was hard to guess that the sound came from another device around!
While it is possible for every user to customise his ringtone, the process take some time and skills, and the result is never really convincing: to be effective, a ringtone should sound like... a ringtone, and not like an excerpt of a song. This is where Kaleido Ringtone can help.
This new iOS app generates unique ringtones algorithmically: harmonies, voicings, arpeggios, orchestration... every musical aspect has been carefully considered. A side effect of the algorithmic approach is the nearly infinite quantity of possible ringtones: even listening to a tone per second, it would take 7,000,000 billions years to complete the collection! The old MIDI technology, coupled with beautiful sounds, provides the right tools to transform this infinite abstractness into real and resounding .m4r files.
To the user he process is extremely simple: he sets six preferences (the timber of the first and second voice, the duration, the speed, the density aka the quantity of notes per beat, and the dynamic profile), clicks on the New button, and presses Play to listen to the result. If he likes what he hears, he Saves it, otherwise he can repeat from start.
The files are saved on the iPhone in the proper format, with the proper extension and with a unique name. For those who are unfamiliar with File Sharing in iOS, a second screen inside the app explains clearly how to retrieve them for the usual iTunes installation.
