Stargard, Poland - Anawiki Games is expanding its horizons with the release of a new app that's part game, part travel companion. World Uncovered aims to take users to places they've never been, all while encouraging them to examine their daily routines.
It's a simple concept with the potential to go far: A "gamified" world map which tracks the user's travels and rewards them for visiting new places. When the app is first installed, the map is completely covered up. By traveling around - whether on foot or by road, sea or air - the user begins to uncover the map. They score points in the process, which they can add to through various types of achievements, including visiting famous landmarks. Those scores can then be shared through social media and with friends, creating friendly competition to encourage users to switch up their routines and see more of the world.
"We're really excited about this product," says Anawiki owner Roman Budzowski, "It's a bit of a departure for us, because it both is and isn't a game, in the traditional sense anyway. I love to travel, and I love games, so it made sense to me to combine the two, and I think anyone else who enjoys those two things will agree."
World Uncovered allows users to display their map in one of four modes. The first and most basic is "Uncovered," which simply shows the map with visited locations uncovered. The other three employ colour-coding to enhance the experience: Height uses a colour gradient to display topographical information; Speed mode shows different-coloured tracks depending on how fast the user was travelling; and Routes changes the colour of paths as the user retraces their steps, providing a map of daily routines and favourite destinations.
The app is optimized to conserve battery power and is extremely easy to use: It's just one tap to start recording a journey, and another tap to stop. Navigating through the four modes and exploring the map is equally simple and intuitive.
"There's really no one way to use this app," says Budzowski, "That's the beauty of it. It makes the whole world one big sandbox game. You can try to hit all the world's biggest landmarks, walk every street in your town, climb your country's tallest peaks, whatever you want. It's up to you what kind of game you want to make it, and the app just takes care of all the scorekeeping for you."
World Uncovered knows the locations of over 120 of the world's greatest landmarks, and keeps your checklist updated automatically whenever users visit one. The Empire State Building, the Eiffel Tower, the Taj Mahal, Big Ben, Machu Picchu, the Golden Gate Bridge, Great Pyramids, Westerplatte, the Burj Khalifa, the Colosseum, Sagrada Familia, Petronas Towers and many more sights await users.
Importing data from GPS devices other than the iPhone is easy, as is migration from Fog of World, for users of that app. There's also an option to enable cloud backup via Dropbox, but on an opt-in basis for privacy reasons.
"People have valid concerns about location tracking on modern devices, so we've made privacy a top priority. World Uncovered only records your travels when you've told it to, and by default, that data is stored only locally. It's never sent to our servers for any reason, and the backup and social media sharing functionality is only activated at the user's discretion."

Fairwinds Software announces myPolitics 1.2, their new political and social issues opinion app for iOS devices. myPolitics allows users to express their opinions about the issues of the day. Subjects cover hundreds of issues, such as politics, gun control, healthcare, taxes, and much more. The issues are quickly explained, and participants can then share their positions on the specified issue with a simple tap of the screen. Users can also leave a short comment, if they so desire.
Independence, Missouri - Fairwinds Software is proud to announce the initial public release of myPolitics 1.2, their new political and social issues opinion app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch devices. myPolitics offers users the opportunity to express their opinions about the issues of the day via an easy-to-use polling system. Anyone can express their opinions on such subjects as politics, gun control, healthcare, taxes, abortion and hundreds more.
myPolitics quickly lays out the question for the user, via a short easy-to-understand explanation of the issue. Participants can then quickly share their opinion on the subject with a simple tap or two of their device's screen. (Some issues allow more than one answer.) If they like, users can also leave a short comment, to expand on their thoughts on the subject.
When a user first opens the app, they'll immediately be presented with a list of issues. From this screen, participants can immediately tap an issue to view more about the subject, view the available responses, and tap their selections. They can also access the Sort-Filter menu, where they can add or remove subjects from the list of issues they wish to share their opinion about, and change the order they are presented in. Users can also quickly search for a particular issue via the handy search bar at the top of the screen.
myPolitics allows users to remain completely anonymous if they wish, or they can provide optional demographic information that allows viewing how their own opinion compares to users with similar demographics. To prevent skewing of the results, Fairwinds does require users to register and provide their email address. Following validation, Fairwinds keeps track of the users votes on their servers in order to generate summary data.
"At Fairwinds, it has long been our belief that most political and social opinion research is flawed, due to how both the questions and available responses are worded. Sometimes they even seem worded to elicit a certain answer," says Neil Tiffin, Principal of Fairwinds Software. "With the myPolitics app, we work to ensure our questions and responses are both fact based, and neutral with respect to political party or religious beliefs. We believe this approach provides the freedom for real expression of voters' opinions on the issues facing society."

"We feel it is very important for our app to be different than the usual run of the mill polling or political opinion apps most people encounter," continues Neil. "We believe there is a clear disconnect between the politicians on either side of the aisle, and the voting public. myPolitics was designed with the idea of allowing the public to express themselves via a balanced and unbiased polling system, the like of which many voters have never encountered."
myPolitics prevents users from adding their own issues to the app in order to make sure the issues and available options are free of bias. While Fairwinds knows many users could easily avoid bias, they also know there are plenty of political operatives in the world who are paid to get people asking the wrong questions to divert their attention from the real issues facing the world today.
Users can make a difference by expressing their ideas and opinions in the comments section of every survey. Fairwinds reviews the comments, and uses that input to create additional questions or make changes in the app and its questions in future versions. Fairwinds will also make results available to news and media organizations, in order to make sure the participant's voices are heard.
"The goal of our app is to provide the leaders in our country a direct view of the will of the people. Political affiliation is of no concern to us. To drive change, we as the American people must clearly define who we want to be. Our platform is designed to create a clear view of beliefs of the people of this country," shares Neil. "We focus on single issues in a simplistic format to pave the way for single issue legislation. We are tired of being forced into red or blue with the political elite deciding the outcome, it is time for us all to be Red, White and Blue.
