One of the design decisions made early on in development was to implement sound generators in a modular approach. This ensures extensibility for future versions, but also has a more immediate effect. That allows the composer to chose a general color or direction to begin with and then work their way down from the top with scale choices, tonality, rhythm or voice considerations and more.

Each module uses its own algorithm to create sound but also defines meter, key and a base scale as tone material. The Chroma module is geared towards atonal music with several symmetric and chromatic scales. The Gregorian module employs church modes and the Pentrix module offers 27 types of pentatonic scales. A large selection of sample documents is included to demonstrate each of these module's individual flavors and capabilities.
With an extended General MIDI sound library of over 200 individual sounds to select from Quincy offers a lot right out of the box. In addition to that Quincy implements virtual MIDI with very low latency to allow integration into DAWs like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Reason and many more. Other settings include local audio control and selectable MIDI channel. All documents that Quincy creates are freely interchangeable with the iOS versions Quincy and Quincy Lite which are available on the iPhone App Store for a modest fee.

Coral Gables, Florida - NERDLab at the University of Miami is pleased to announce the release of Unsavory 1.0 for iOS, Android, and Amazon devices. Almost 90 percent of restaurant workers in the United States do not have access to paid sick days. Unsavory lets players take the role of these workers preparing food to see if they can survive a month on the job while sick.
Developed by NERDLab at the University of Miami in collaboration with Restaurant Opportunities Centers (ROC) United, the game hopes to raise awareness about the lack of paid sick days and the potential for a public health crisis. During the H1N1 flu pandemic of 2009, employees who attended work while sick were estimated to have caused the infection of as many as 7 million co-workers.
"No one should have to choose between their job and staying home sick to take care of themselves or their children, but unfortunately that's the reality for most restaurant workers, said Maria Myotte, communications director at ROC. "The vast majority of the restaurant industry's more than 11 million employees do not have paid sick days, and our research shows that 60% of restaurant workers have had to work while sick."
Myotte said that the biggest opponent to paid sick day legislation is actually the corporate restaurant lobby, the National Restaurant Association. The game educates consumers and encourages them to speak up in favor of paid sick time every time they dine out.
Professor Clay Ewing, who heads the NERDLab at UM's School of Communication, said that the game is a combination of memory, matching and speed, players put together orders at a fictitious restaurant named Rocket Taco. Just as players are settling into their job, flu season arrives. Do you wipe your nose continuously on the job or stay home sick without pay? Pressure is building, one taco at a time.

Downloading files from web pages can be quite cumbersome and time consuming in iOS: Users have to tap a link in Safari, wait for the download to finish, tap "Open In...", and choose the target app. For multiple downloads, users have to repeat this process. Some apps, like "Musk MIDI Player", therefore embed a web browser to immediately use the downloaded files. However, embedded web browsers often do not support synchronized bookmarking or multiple tabs.
Since iOS 8, users can send the content of a Safari web page to a web extension for custom processing. The "Musk Links" web extension extracts all links from a web page that have pre-selected file extensions. Users can highlight these links in the web page, search for suitable links, select links and download the linked files in the background.
User can manage active downloads and organize, preview and export files. ChordsMaestro features seven musical instruments and allows users to play all the chords in their favorite songs. They can select the way they prefer the chords to be represented: notes, piano keys or fret-board keys, for example. All the instruments in the app are interconnected, so users are able to switch between instruments using the same chords, listen to the selected chords in the original sound of their selected instrument; create, save and load the chords for their favorite songs and even transpose the chords to the key best suited for their voice range.
