Gatineau (QC) Canada - Perdrix Apps today is excited to announce that their second app, TurboWords, is now available exclusively for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. TurboWords is a spelling app, where students record words given at school, and play them back in a spelling test. Unlike other apps, all the words can be recorded in one stretch. It takes barely a minute to record 20 words.
"Seeing, saying, hearing and writing your words will help you succeed in school tests" says Stephane Blais, a parent of two school-age boys, who got the idea after vainly searching for a proper app to record words, given at school every week. Stephane helped developer Claude Labelle, who is also a parent of a primary school girl, who used the app successfully throughout her 6th grade, while it was in development. The children helped debug and made suggestions to improve TurboWords. "If it takes too long or if it's too difficult to record their words, children will be discouraged" added Stephane. In TurboWords, recording is easy and quick. The student just tap a big red Record button, say all their words, one after the other, and then tap the Stop button.
After quickly recording words, the student can hear them back by touching them. It's easy to re-record individual words (a long press), move or delete them. The app strips any silence found at the beginning or end of words, greatly improving the playback during the spelling test.
The spelling test is where the words are played back, in order or randomly. The student hears the words and types or writes them on paper. There is a variety of options, including one to have the app pronounce the sound of the word as it is typed. Standard audio controls Play/Pause, Previous/Forward are used to control the playback of words. The app can also automatically skip to the next word after a time limit set by the user. A progress bar and a word count show indication of how far the student is.
The spelling test can then be corrected; learnt words can be checked as such, while incorrect words can be retried in the spelling test, or corrected on-screen. Once a word is marked as correct, new spelling tests will feature instant feedback (right or wrong animations) and automatic correction. A positive-reinforcement star shows progress as words are learnt, and shines when all words are correct.
Words are arranged in groups, students can create a new group for the words to learn this week, for example. TurboWords can become multi-user through an in-app purchase. Users can be identified by name and photo. There is help on every screen.

The Hundred Board is a fun and educational exercise that helps children with their counting from 1 to 100. This new app will be available on the first day of the Apple TV release. Dearborn Heights, Michigan - Mobile Montessori is happy to announce that they will be be publishing educational apps for Apple TV. Their first Apple TV app, The Hundred Board - Math, will be available on the very first day of the new Apple TV release.
"Imagine children actually using the living room TV for something constructive!" explained Harin Wickremasinghe, App Designer at Mobile Montessori. "We see families sitting down together to complete educational puzzles and activities. Parents will enjoy being able to observe their children from a distance as they complete tasks within the apps. Classrooms can run group activities as each student passes the Siri remote from one person to the next. There's a lot we're all going to do with the new Apple TV, and we are happy to bring you quality, educational content for children that will turn screen time into quality time!"
The Hundred Board is a fun and educational exercise that helps children with their counting from 1 to 100. The task is simple: Assemble the board by finding and placing the number tiles in sequence.
Activities:
* Sequence (With Control) - Assemble the Hundred Board with the aid of seeing control numbers on the board to know what number to search for next.
* Sequence (standard) - This activity tests a child's knowledge of numbers by having to search for the next number in sequence without any assistance.
* Counting by Evens & Odds - As an introduction to skip-counting, children can assemble the Hundred Board by either Even or Odd numbers only.
Features:
* All activities are self-correcting
* Every number can be heard aloud when it is placed into position, reinforcing the name of each number for the child
* A score is presented for parents and teachers to evaluate a child's progress
