Ann Arbor, Michigan - Alphabet Galleries, LLC has released Letterworks 1.0, its new educational iPad app. Designed for ages 2 and up, this early education app teaches the alphabet and handwriting skills. There are over 100 original drawings of letters made out of animals, plants and everyday objects. The app includes phonics and a writing pad to practice printing letters and words. LetterWorks builds strong printing skills 8 ways:

1. Phonics
2. Vocabulary
3. Printing practice
4. Upper and lower case
5. Letter names
6. Letter shapes
7. Positive feedback
8. 8 different themes

Discover letters made out of animals, plants and everyday objects. LetterWorks has over 100 original drawings. The eight different cursors include a question mark, space shuttle, butterfly and more. Adults can tap the info button to read about the objects hidden under the letters.

"As the programmer," said Joe Sokolov, "I wanted to build a letter game where there is no way for children to make a mistake. The cursors guide the strokes for each letter, helping develop the coordination needed for successful writing. If the child picks up a finger while tracing the letter, the cursor waits until it is touched again. This is especially helpful for very young children and anyone with coordination challenges."

"As the artist," Leslie said, "I want children to be able to enter a world of beautiful letters. We created some letters out of familiar objects, like ice cream and some out of unusual ones, like kelp and Saguaro cactus. By hearing the words read aloud, children learn to pronounce them. When an adult reads the info about the objects, the child's vocabulary is expanded."

"Nine-tenths of education is encouragement," wrote Anatole France. LetterWorks provides positive reinforcement with on-screen celebration as the letters are completed.
