Zombeeze, a procedurally generated , zombie themed, puzzle game in 3D - Published on 04/12/14

Desolate Spectre Studios announces Zombeeze for the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. This is an addictive game with 200 levels of increasing difficulty. Its ravenous zombies pursue you, a young Victorian lass, through each level. You must reach the exit, avoiding obstacles and walls before the zombeeze get to you. The game is played in first person 3D but there is an overhead view to help you plan your escape. Zombeeze is spooky and addictive.

Christchurch, New Zealand - When Christchurch company, Desolate Spectre Studios, released its first IOS game 'Zombeeze' in March it was the result of some very successful AI techniques. Level generation was done by an automated system with rules for determining the playability and difficulty of each level. Once the levels were completed then real world users tested them in order of difficulty. The system was a success and it has now been applied in a new game for Stickmen Studios, a Christchurch based console game development studio.

"We are a small company with big ideas," said Desolate Spectre CEO Brooklyn Waters. "Procedural Content Generation will give indie developers a real shot at competing with large studios, and we are committed to doing just that."

For Desolate Spectre Studios the game Zombeeze is a toe in the water of PCG. The company has been experimenting for some time. Brooklyn Waters was previously the technical director at Stickmen Studios. "At Stickmen we funded a PhD candidate to help us research procedural generation and algorithmic elements of style," he reflects. "In the results of that research I saw the possibility of small studios creating large experiences with small footprints, and low development costs."

The next game by Desolate Spectre Studios is still hush-hush, but odds are good that much of it will be procedurally generated.
