The app works by guiding users through the correct way to write Chinese characters, step-by-step. Then the user is invited to replicate what they have been shown by using their finger or a stylus to reproduce the appropriate characters on the screen.

An important feature is the ability to switch the application into quiz mode, which enables the student to then receive a rating for accurately they have managed to replicate the Chinese characters they have been shown.
