New App Helps Middle Schoolers Navigate Their Family Relationships - Published on 08/22/14

Free Spirit Publishing and Electric Eggplant have announced the release of their new iOS app Middle School Confidential 3: What's Up with My Family?, the third app of the much lauded series for tweens and teens. Jack, Jen, Chris, Abby, Mateo, and Michelle - a tight-knit group of middle school friends - realize that growing up often means changes at home. The app follows the gang as they each work through some difficult family situations and learn to appreciate the people they live with even siblings.

San Anselmo, California - "What's Up with My Family?" is based on Book 3 of the award-winning Middle School Confidential book series written by parenting expert and teen adviser Annie Fox, M.Ed., and illustrated by Harvey Award-winner Matt Kindt. Designed for 8- to 14-year-olds, the app gives readers a look at how their peers handle family rules, resolve conflicts, and deal with common challenges of wanting more independence and more freedom to make their own choices. "What's Up with My Family?" puts decision-making power into the hands of readers, with eight interactive quizzes that let them choose how they would handle different family situations. Richly layered audio, cool graphics and effects, and "Meet the Cast" pages with insider information about the characters, and an Epilogue make this an entertaining - as well as enlightening - app for tweens.

Praise For The Middle School Confidential Apps:

"Through believable scenarios depicted on colorful panels, the diverse friends interact at school and in their neighborhood helping one another as they confront self-esteem, friendship, and family issues and discuss truth and courage . . . this is good-quality targeted character education." - School Library Journal

"A must-download for any digital library for 4th through 9th graders, this app series gives youth stories they can relate to with healthy messages about resolving problems, expressing feelings and understanding relationship issues . . . Electric Eggplant has set the gold standard for presenting graphic novels in the digital realm. My highest recommendation!" - Digital Storytime
