Cambridge, United Kingdom - MacVector, Inc. is proud to announce the release of MacVector 14 for Mac OS X. MacVector is a comprehensive Macintosh application that provides sequence editing, primer design, internet database searching, protein analysis, sequence confirmation, multiple sequence alignment, phylogenetic reconstruction, coding region analysis, and a variety of other functions. MacVector is widely regarded as the most intuitive, easy to use program available for sequence analysis.

MacVector is a fully 64-bit application using only modern Apple frameworks. This enhances performance with large sequences and increases compatibility for future releases of OS X. New tools include the primer database tool. Users are able to save primers from the two primer design and testing tools directly to a central primer database and to scan sequences against that database. The primer database is backwards compatible with user's own subsequence files. For sequence assembly, Bowtie has been updated to version 2 so that reference assemblies can incorporate insertions and deletions. INDELs are graphically represented on the reference contig.

"With MacVector 14 our hardworking developers have finished rewriting MacVector to use only modern OS X libraries and at the same time made it a fully 64 bit application," said MacVector, Inc's CEO, Dr. Kevin Kendall. "That might not mean much to the average user, but let's just say as long as you have a modern Mac with plenty of memory, MacVector 14 is fast with large sequences. Furthermore, now that we are a fully 64 bit application expect to see many performance enhancements in the releases following MacVector 14."
