Alexandria, Virginia - Vito Technology, the award-winning developer of educational apps for Android and iOS, today launched the update of iOS Star Walk 2 app, the next generation of company's best-selling stargazing guide, that has surpassed 10 million downloads to date. Among new features are iOS 9 and Watch OS 2 support, including integrated spotlight search, slide over, new widget, new Apple Watch app, notifications for calendar events, New Horizons mission, Portuguese language, and more.

Newly introduced features of iOS 9 are now supported by Star Walk 2. All astronomy objects with information are easily accessible through spotlight search. Users can open another app without leaving Star Walk 2 with slide over, and see the most important information as a complication on Apple Watch.

The new widget for Star Walk 2 is an essential add-on for astronomy enthusiasts who want to keep up with things happening in the sky. By sliding down on the screen it is easy to quickly glance over the upcoming astronomical events and see how good the night is for sky watching.

New Apple Watch app for Star Walk 2 will also inform the user about the brightest events like an ISS flyby or an Iridium flare, meteor showers, rise, set and culmination hours for the Sun, Venus, Jupiter, and the Moon. One can set a notification for any event straight from the wearable device. Stargazing index for today (shows if the night is good for watching stars) is integrated as a complication on the watch display.

Other changes are the notification settings, details for New Horizons mission and Portuguese localization.

Star Walk 2 is a sequel of the well-known Star Walk app that was released back in 2008 and has acquired more than 10 million users across the world on iPhone, iPad, Android, Kindle, and Windows Phone. It's been an educational best-seller for over five years and won multiple awards, including Apple Design Award in 2010. Star Walk helps to find and identify thousands of stars, satellites, and comets in real time. Using built-in digital compass and motion tracking, this stargazing guide turns the phone into a full-on planetarium.

Real-Time Motion Tracking:
As you hold your phone up and point it towards the sky, Star Walk 2 follows your motions using the built-in gyroscope to match the map on your screen to the stars seen from your location. Easily find any star, constellation, or satellite in the sky by tapping Search. Star Walk will indicate the direction to look in.

New Point Of View:
Unlike on a plain photograph, every star in Star Walk 2 has coordinates. That means you can look at objects, for instance, a constellation from any vantage point in space, not to mention the ultimate accuracy of your map for your exact location.

Now And Later:
Star Walk 2 gives you accurate daily data on current moon phase, time of sunset and sunrise, and elevation of planets. With just one slide you can see how the sky will look later tonight or throughout the year.

Pro Stargazing:
Special night-time soft red mode will help you preserve night vision when stargazing with a telescope. You can see the sky in X-Ray (and 5 more filters) to study the invisible structure of the universe. Live tracking for over 8,000 satellites will help you catch iridium flares, and detailed articles will satisfy the most curious inquirer.
