California based Wobbleworks LLC today announces Luminos 9.0, the latest free feature update to its flagship astronomy app for iOS devices. Luminos is the award-winning, all-in-one astronomy app that goes beyond simple stargazing. The app now includes the largest star catalogs available on mobile devices, giving users up to 113 million stars to explore. Installed star catalogs can be customized with supplemental fields based on preference and available storage.
San Jose, California - Wobbleworks LLC today is proud to announce the release of Luminos 9.0, the latest free feature update to its flagship astronomy app for iOS devices. Luminos includes the largest and most comprehensive star catalog available on mobile devices. Users can choose variants of the UCAC4 star database with as many as 113 million stars. Installed star catalogs can be customized with supplemental fields based on preference and available storage. Luminos has also been enhanced for iOS 9 and the watchOS 2.0.
Inclusion of the UCAC4 (Fourth U.S. Naval Observatory CCD Astrograph Catalogue) makes Luminos the astronomy app with the largest database available on mobile. Luminos users can choose between three versions of the UCAC4 catalog which fit their needs and device profile: a Light version with 25 million stars, a Medium version with 50 million stars, and the Complete version with 113 million stars. A smaller Tycho-2 catalog with 2.5 million stars is also available.
All catalogs are free downloads that can be changed or deleted as desired. Once any catalog is chosen, a Luminos user can supplement it by adding additional downloads for more data fields on each star: APASS, 2MASS, Survey Photometry, Proper Motion, and Error Statistics.
Wobbleworks has also added integration with iOS 9 to the Luminos app. Luminos supports split-screen multitasking, allowing it to run side-by-side with other apps or slide-over multitasking on smaller devices. Larger phones such as iPhone 6 now have an enhanced landscape display showing both the Luminos browser and sky view at the same time. Popular and recent viewing targets in Luminos have been added to the iOS 9 Spotlight search, providing quick access to them from outside the app.
The companion Apple Watch app for Luminos has been updated to support watchOS 2.0, including faster and more reliable sky charts and better animations. The Luminos Watch app lets users see a live sky chart for satellites, planets, and stars, as well as find out current details on popular astronomy targets.
Luminos is the recent recipient of a 2015 PC Magazine Editor's Choice award. The previous versions of Luminos added the largest deep space image collection in any mobile app, live sky charts for Apple Watch, and 3D meteor shower simulations.
