21-Year-Old Student Releases an App and Receives Valuation of $3m - Published on 03/27/16

Spontime, a new Social Networking Mobile App founded by 21-year-old Karolina Demianczuk, helps to make spontaneous plans with friends and enjoy more time together in real life. What pushed her to create Spontime were her broad experiences abroad. Users simply post what they feel like doing, and their friends can join them or not. Although the App is not yet released, it has already attracted attention of Angel Investors who valued the startup at $3 million.

San Francisco, California - Karolina Demianczuk, a 21-year-old student, aims to move Millennials out of the digital world. Her App, 'Spontime', helps to make spontaneous plans with friends and enjoy more time together in real life. Although Spontime is not out yet, college students massively sign up for its pre-release version and Angel Investors top their bids, valuing the startup at $3 million.

As stated by the Founder, Spontime's mission is to 'bring people together'. Users simply post what they feel like doing, and their friends can join them or not. In this way they are constantly informed about what their friends are up to, so that they 'never miss out on the fun'. There are no 'chat' or 'comment' features, however. "We want to minimize the time people spend in front of their screens. The point is to make them see people face-to-face more often, not talking through the app," says Karolina.

What pushed Karolina to create Spontime were her broad experiences abroad. She has visited more than thirty countries and lived in three: Poland, the U.S. and Singapore, being able to compare lifestyle and behaviors of her peers around the world. "It does not matter if we are in America, Europe, Africa or Asia. With today's speed on life, inevitable digitalization, and globalization, it is harder to maintain real, in-person relationships," says Karolina. Founding Spontime, Demianczuk and her team - Michal Tajchert, Dawid Koncewicz, Lukasz Muszynski and Dima Miroshnichenko, want to make it as easy as possible to organize spontaneous activities, such as jogging, lunch or beer, and have fun together in the real life.

The concept seems to work well. Students already look forward to the app release and massively sign up for the pre-release version of Spontime - in the first day of its announcement the company received more than 2,000 download requests. Not surprisingly, Demianczuk is already in the process of negotiating seed investment deals with Angel Investors from Poland, the US, and Sweden, who valued the startup at $3 million. The company plans to close the deal by the end of March.

"We were surprised by how many investors and VCs have approached us. We were not expecting this much interest in such an early stage, we have not even been looking for funding yet," says Demianczuk. Spontime is currently having its closed beta. The company has not announced the release date yet, although the app is planned to be launched in early spring.
