Kwalee Launches a Generous New Royalty Scheme - Published on 03/07/16

The thought of profit driven royalty schemes in the mobile games industry is enough to whet anyone's proverbial appetite, and today Kwalee have announced what they believe to be the most generous royalty scheme in the games industry. Kwalee CEO David Darling announced last night, through his blog, that he is launching a brand new, industry first royalties scheme which will see employees rewarded with a massive 15% of each game's profits.

Leamington Spa, United Kingdom - With King finalising it's $5.9 bn sale to Activision earlier this week, and declaring it's profits of $517m for 2015, the thought of profit driven royalty schemes in the mobile games industry is enough to whet anyone's proverbial appetite, and today Kwalee have announced what they believe to be the most generous royalty scheme in the games industry.

Kwalee CEO David Darling announced last night, through his blog, that he is launching a brand new, industry first royalties scheme which will see employees rewarded with a massive 15% of each game's profits.

"I'm a firm believer in royalties, and I think it's a great shame that most people in the games industry are not paid them." Says Darling, he then goes on to explain "Royalties motivated us (both David and his brother, Richard) to write high quality games, knowing our efforts would be rewarded. So when we were at Codemasters we made sure the developers who worked for us were valued too."

As the mobile games market reaches a net worth of $25bn, the possibility of generous rewards through royalties is increasingly becoming a reality. Darling then points out his previous payouts, "As a publisher I've paid out millions in royalties. We rewarded Ted Carron, the co-inventor of the Game Genie, Gavin Raeburn, who produced TOCA Touring Car Championship, and Guy Wilday, who developed the first three Colin McRae games, among many others, and now we're doing the same at Kwalee."

Darling continues, to explain how the profits will be dished out, "The greatest rewards are given to those who have put in the most time and effort on a profitable project." concluding that "It's a belief system that I'm sure will encourage innovation and creativity".
