The app is designed to make ordering from a menu written in another language as easy as taking a photo, cropping the photo a bit, and waiting a moment for the translation. The app can translate an entire column of a menu at once, and the results are presented in an easy-to-read typeface, with each line of the original menu immediately followed by its translation, so the traveler can simply point to what they want to order.
"Le Menu Dit" is French for "The Menu Says," and there is no better way to describe exactly what the app does. Users simply take a photo of the menu, crop as needed, and tap "Translate." The idea that became Le Menu Dit originally came to be following a trip to Germany by developer Price and his family. A limited German vocabulary, and no convenient way to translate the menu, led to a less than satisfactory dining experience for the group, and planted the seed for the menu translation app. Upon returning from their trip, Phil and his two friends, Nathan Addy and Yixing (Ethan) Chen, set to work on developing the app. They have worked to improve Le Menu Dit ever since.
