Patina Painting App for Mac Relaunched with New Features as a Paid App - Published on 05/17/16

California based Atek, Inc. today announces Patina 1.1, an important update to their highly rated painting/drawing app for Mac OS X. Sporting a modern and slick appearance, Patina is useful for making simple drawings & sketches, as well as for doing basic image editing tasks. Basic operations, such as drawing and manipulating shapes, setting & changing colors, moving and resizing objects, and doing annotations, are all very straightforward. Version 1.1 offers lots of user-friendly enhancements.

Fountain Valley, California - Atek, Inc., a Southern California technology company, this week has updated Patina, its highly rated and previously free Mac painting app, with new features and a new price tag of $2.99 in the Mac App Store.

Patina, which is useful for making simple drawings and sketches, as well as for doing basic image editing tasks, had the highest user rating among the top 10 most downloaded free apps in the Graphics & Design category in the Mac App Store. Atek decided to change Patina to a paid app, albeit with a low price, in order to support further development of its already highly regarded app.

New features of Patina, which is also known as Paint with Patina, include additional ways to open/import new images (specifically "drag and drop" and "copy and paste" image files from Finder, and email attachments), more indicators in the status bar, interpolation to better maintain quality of resized images, keyboard shortcuts, tooltips, better facilities for proportional resizing of images, and enhanced grid and ruler settings.

According to Atek founder Dan Rothman, Patina was designed and built from scratch with great care to be as user-friendly, powerful, and useful as possible. Rothman said, "We originally started building Patina to be a Microsoft Paint replacement for users who migrated from Microsoft to Apple. But in the process of developing the app, we realized we could make it even better than Paint, and also better than other existing Paint-like options for Mac."

Rothman added, "If you look at other free and paid basic painting apps in the Mac App Store, it's apparent that most of them have essentially the same tool bar as each other. Those apps are derivations of a old and no longer supported open source app called Paintbrush. Patina is not a derivation of Paintbrush. We're confident that Patina is the best non-vector, non-layered painting app in the Mac App Store, and we are committed to continuing to build it and improve it even more."

Previous users of the free version of Patina, which is designed and programmed in California and Washington, get a free upgrade to this newest version.
