Calligraphy Penmanship: challenging ink and paper with a digital pen - Published on 12/01/16

Topdune Studio announces Calligraphy Penmanship 1.5, developed exclusively for the popular iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. With personalized and very sensitive adjustments of the pencil pressure and smoothness, calligraphers will quickly find the feeling of their favorite shading style. This version offers two new series of incredible pen effects. The beauty of their lines and shades is based on harmonious color combinations, and the regularity of the color overlays.

Chateaudun, France - Topdune Studio is pleased to announce the release of its new version (1.5) of Calligraphy Penmanship. Traditionally, calligraphers are not using massively digital tools for creating their artworks. Ink and paper are their preferred tools, but it seems that they are getting into the digital age progressively for its advantages in terms of power and usability. Painting applications and their brush effects are their favorite instruments of creation. But these applications are not devoted to calligraphy and hand lettering. Despite of their excellence, they need to get a step forward for calligraphers and letterers.

Our studio has created 3 applications totally crafted for calligraphy and lettering: Calligraphy Art, Calligraphy Handbook and, our newest one, Calligraphy Penmanship. Our two last series of pen effects released in this new version (Calligraphy Penmanship 1.5) are simply incredible and impossible to create by a single stroke with ink and paper.

The Highway pen effect is a colored line escorted by two thin lines of matching color. The Candy pen effect consists on drawing simultaneously three perfectly adjacent colored lines, the dominant color will progressively coming to front when changing the stroke direction. Just like a stick of twisted candy. By changing the pen rotation, the same head will produce surprising color effects.

Frankly, you cannot imagine the perfection, the usability and the power of these digital pens if you have never tried them on your digital tablet.

Challenge #1: the Highway pen stroke can be drawn with ink and paper in 3 strokes (but after some training and ink drying time). With Calligraphy Penmanship, the three lines of colors can be drawn with a single and smooth movement of your fingers.

Challenge #2: when using ink and paper, the Candy effect must be literally drawn and carefully colored. With our digital pen, it can be produced with a single and smooth movement of your fingers.
