The Distance App Launches Innovative App for Brain Charity - Published on 02/08/18

The Distance App Developers and Encephalitis Society join forces to launch the innovate BrainWalk App in support of World Encephalitis Day 2018. The app's main purpose is to track the steps of all users: steps can be accrued by walking and playing games (allowing those who may be suffering from the disease to contribute). Together, all users combine their steps so that they can walk "around the world" before World Encephalitis Day on February 22, 2018.

York, United Kingdom - Two companies from Yorkshire were recently invited to the House of Commons to launch an app which aims to raise awareness of encephalitis, a virus which causes inflammation of the brain.

The Encephalitis Society are a registered charity based in Malton, whilst The Distance are one of the UK's leading app developers, residing in York, North Yorkshire.

The event took place in The House of Commons, welcoming special guests such as Iain Duncan Smith and charity ambassador Rebecca Adlington, with the intention of educating people about the potentially deadly disease due to a huge percentage of individuals being unaware of the nature of encephalitis.

CEO of the charity, Dr Ava Easton, is constantly battling for awareness of the condition, quoting, "eight out of ten people don't know what encephalitis is."

The innovative app has been shared across a number of social media platforms by users from all corners of the globe, including Argentina, New Zealand and India, by use of hashtags #BrainWalk and #WorldEncephalitisDay.

The app's main purpose is to track the steps of all users: steps can be accrued by walking and playing games (allowing those who may be suffering from the disease to contribute).
