A Better Finder Rename 11 with filtering, presets & more meta-data - Published on 10/15/19

publicspace today announces the release of version 11 of A Better Finder Rename, their popular batch file renaming solution for macOS. A Better Finder Rename has long been the leading file, photo, video and music renaming utility on the Mac. The app is a sophisticated tool that caters for the full range of file renaming tasks encountered by the creative professional. Version 11 introduces file filtering, auto-increment counters and meta-data, presets and lexical case conversion improvements.

Luxembourg, Luxembourg - publicspace is pleased to announce the 11th generation of their market leading batch file renaming solution for macOS. A Better Finder Rename has long been the most complete file renaming solution on the market and has transformed the tedious and time-consuming task of renaming large numbers of files into a simple matter of seconds for tens of thousands of creative professionals across the world. It is based on over twenty years of listening to our users and addressing their requirements to the best of our abilities.

A Better Finder Rename is a sophisticated tool that caters for the full range of file renaming tasks encountered by the modern creative professional. Its streamlined interface includes an instant preview feature that eliminates guess work and reduces error. The tool features capture time and date extraction (EXIF JPEG, most RAW formats, many video formats) for digital photographers, ID3 tag extraction for music lovers, regular expression support, plain-text file import for renaming from databases and many other advanced features.

The renaming engine is capable of handling very large renaming jobs with ease and it meets file renaming challenges, such as file name conflicts, swaps and dependency cycles that other such tools leave unaddressed, head on. The renaming engine leverages all the latest macOS technologies by using a 64-bit multi-threaded architecture based around the Core Data database system.

Version 11 introduces file filter actions that allow name changes to be selectively limited to files or folders meeting certain filtering criteria. This ability is backed with a wide selection of filtering criteria, instant visual criteria matching preview, full integration into the multi-step renaming interface, drag & drop re-organization, etc.

The new version also takes the Presets feature introduced in version 10 to the next level. Presets are now the preferred unit of automation, gain their own side bar from which they can be triggered, ordered, fine-tuned and shared. Presets can also be used to apply automated renaming steps by simply dragging the files that are to be renamed onto the closed application icon.

Version 11 further enhances the tool's already considerable meta-data reading capabilities with support for new files types, focusing on video and document formats (including PDF, Microsoft Office, etc.) and a new caching and performance architecture.

The existing case conversion features are enhanced by leveraging macOS's multi-lingual lexical class tagger to identify grammatical structures and exploiting this information to perform selective case conversions. Category and action menus have been re-organized and clarified to simplify finding the right renaming parameters. The multi-step rename interface now features full undo support and the renaming engine's multi-threading has been reworked to make it even faster and more reactive.

Finally, the new version is fully macOS 10.15 Catalina compatible, uses the hardened runtime for improved security and meets all of Apple's new notarization requirements.

"A Better Finder Rename" is ideally suited for creative professionals, digital photographers, web masters, music collectors, audio specialists, users who need to transfer files from Windows or UNIX, as well as for all other Macintosh users who routinely deal with large numbers of files.
