SubEthaEdit 4 debuts in the App Store with UI inspired by OS X Yosemite - Published on 06/12/14

TheCodingMonkeys today announces SubEthaEdit 4.0.1, an update to their popular collaborative editor for OS X. SubEthaEdit kickstarted collaborative editing with its immediate and easy way to connect and work on text. After a bit of radio silence, SubEthaEdit is back with a fresh user interface that already anticipates some of OS X Yosemite's translucent UI features. The new release also fixed bugs, added features and moved to the Mac App Store for a more modern purchase and update experience.

Munich, Germany - A powerful text editor - on your own or together with friends. The app that started the collaborative editing revolution is back with a brand-new interface, ready for the future. Write articles, code, notes or meeting minutes with friends - wherever they are.

SubEthaEdit kickstarted collaborative editing with its immediate and easy way to connect and work on text. In 2003, it won an Apple Design Award for its intuitive interface. In its fourth major version and first paid update in ten years it debuts in the Mac App Store.

SubEthaEdit can work without any Internet connection. Rendezvous networking makes it easy to just collaborate without the hassle of setting up connections and jumping through hoops to see each other. No complicated setup, browser or Internet required. Of course SubEthaEdit also supports collaboration over the Internet. Send invites via iMessage or Email via Mac OS X's sharing services. The app takes care of the complicated stuff like mapping network ports in your router and making the document available, leaving you able to concentrate on what matters: Your text.

SubEthaEdit is also the first text editor in the Mac App Store that does not require exceptions from Apple Sandboxing rules, as far as we know. In addition to all its collaboration features, it's also a real work horse editor suited for the lone code warrior.

TheCodingMonkeys was founded by students in 2003 who set out to win an Apple Design Award. Which they did! SubEthaEdit, the first usable collaborative text editor was awarded this highest honor of Mac software development and did kickstart networked editing, like we also see today in Google Docs or Etherpad. We've worked on a few other projects since then, and even managed to win another Apple Design Award in the process. With the advent of the iPhone we have also started developing iOS games, like the award winning digital board game Carcassonne.
