Modular 1.06 Free for iOS - Groundbreaking, Virtual Analog Synthesizer - Published on 08/15/14

Pulse Code today announces an update to Modular 1.06 for iOS, its studio-quality, virtual analog synthesizer, featuring 30 different modules, band-limited oscillators, and oversampled filters. Far more flexible than fixed synthesizer designs, the app lets users interconnect and independently control Source, Filter, Amplifier/Routing, Modulation, Envelope, Effect, and Special modules. Ideal for synth enthusiasts, it provides all the advantages of modular synthesis in an expandable app.

Trabuco Canyon, California - Pulse Code today is proud to announce Modular 1.06 free for iOS, its studio-quality, virtual analog synthesizer, featuring 30 different modules, band-limited oscillators, and oversampled filters. Far more flexible than fixed synthesizer designs, the app lets users interconnect and independently control Source, Filter, Amplifier/Routing, Modulation, Envelope, Effect, and Special modules. It looks, acts, and sounds like a hardware modular synthesizer, providing musicians with pulse width modulation, oscillator sync, 4-pole ladder filters, and 1V/oct filter tracking. Modular supports Audiobus, SoundCloud, and CoreMIDI, as well as AudioCopy, so that the user's music-making workflow is streamlined and integrated. Ideal for professional musicians or beginners, it provides all the advantages of modular synthesis in an expandable app.

Feature Highlights:
* High fidelity, virtual analog synthesis, using band-limited oscillators, and oversampled filters
* Audiobus 2 and background audio modes
* CoreMIDI control with external devices or internal sequencers
* Beautifully rendered graphics
* Dynamic workspace with intuitive navigation
* Optional modules available individually or as a Module Bundle
* 10-octave keyboard with classically styled arpeggiator
* Extensive in-app help with detailed module descriptions and guides
* Record and export live performances to SoundCloud, AudioCopy, email, and iTunes file sharing

Modular creates sound primarily through subtractive synthesis. In subtractive synthesis, a harmonically rich sound source is modified by subtracting unwanted harmonics to make the desired sound. Source modules consist of oscillators and noise generators; Modifier modules include filters and effects; Amplifier modules change the loudness of the sound over time; envelope generators and low-frequency oscillators are used as Controller modules; and Routing modules allow users to split, combine, fade, or invert signals between modules.

Free Modules:
* VCO-01 - band-limited, voltage controlled oscillator
* VCF-01 - 2-pole, resonance, low pass filter with frequency modulation
* VCA-01 - amplifier with an initial level knob and control voltage/gate
* MIX-02 - combines three input signals into one output
* SPLIT-03 - splits one input signal into three output signals
* INV-04 - utility module that inverts the input signal
* LFO-01 - low frequency oscillator used as a control voltage source fed to other modules
* EG-01 - standard attack, decay, sustain envelope generator
* EG-02 - standard decay envelope generator
* DELAY-01 - standard delay effect module
* BOOL-01 - applies one of three Boolean functions to two input signals
* RING-02 - ring modulator that multiplies two signals together
* SH-03 - standard sample and hold module
* Keyboard - basic synthesizer controller with built-in arpeggiator

Optional Modules:
* VCO-11 - advanced, band-limited, voltage controlled oscillator
* VCO-12 - advanced, analog modeling voltage controlled oscillator
* VCO-13 - advanced, super wave oscillator
* NG-17 - noise generator that outputs both white and pink noise
* VCF-11 - advanced, 2-pole, resonance filter with individual low, band, and high-pass outputs
* VCF-12 - 4-pole, resonance, ladder filter with low-pass output
* VCA-11 - improved amplifier module over the VCA-01
* XFADE-12 - crossfades two signals and outputs the result
* PAN-13 - mono to stereo panner
* LFO-11 - advanced low frequency oscillator
* EG-11 - standard attack, decay, sustain, release envelope generator
* SLEW-13 - slew generator that smoothes out the transitions of an incoming signal
* EG-16 - advanced DELAY, ATTACK, HOLD, DECAY, SUSTAIN, RELEASE envelope generator
* DELAY-11 - advanced, delay effect unit
* DIST-13 - distortion effect module
* RING-16 - ring / amp modulator
* SH-17 - advanced sample and hold

"What makes Modular special is the audio and visual experience you have with it," emphasized Louie Iturzaeta of Pulse Code, Inc. "The beautifully minimal menu systems and interface, and the ultra-realistic synthesizer graphics are just the beginning. The real beauty is not what you see, but what you hear. Pristine and punchy oscillators that sound great, even at the extreme ends of the frequency spectrum. It starts with band-limited oscillators. Not just traditional methods of band-limiting, but band-limiting that enables each note you play to have the maximum number of harmonics without distorting. Every detail of the audio has been analyzed to provide you the most amazing sound possible, with buttery-smooth filter sweeps and resonance so stable you can use the filter as an oscillator!"

Device Requirements:
* iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
* Requires iOS 7.0 or later
* 38.3 MB
