Vibration Sensing Makes Disappearing Bedside Clock for iOS More Amazing - Published on 12/15/14
Massachusetts-based Midnight Oil Enterprises, LLC, today releases Disappearing Bedside Clock 1.3 for iOS, an update to their popular nightstand clock app that excels at showing the current time and then nothing more. The time display disappears after an adjustable time interval, letting you (and the device) rest peacefully. Touch the screen to check the time, which will again disappear automatically. The latest update provides adaptive vibration sensing for no-touch activation on all devices.
Amherst, Massachusetts - Midnight Oil Enterprises, LLC shakes up bedside timekeeping with the release of Disappearing Bedside Clock 1.3 for iOS, an update to their popular nightstand clock app. Disappearing Bedside Clock keeps you in the dark - except when you want to know the time. The clock display disappears automatically after an adjustable time interval, letting you (and the device) rest peacefully. Touch the screen to check the time, which will again disappear after the adjustable duration interval.
On iPhones in portrait orientation, you don't even have to touch the screen to see the time. Hold your hand near the display to activate the phone's proximity detector and the time display! Or on any device, enable adaptive vibration sensing to activate the display with a touch to your nightstand or even a footstep on your floor. Optional brightness dimming is also provided, which lowers the display backlight brightness once the clock has disappeared to produce an even darker display and lower power consumption. (The backlight is dimmed as low as possible, but it is not turned off.)
"I replaced my bedside 30-pin clock radio with a lightning stand charger when I upgraded my iPhone," says Midnight Oil Enterprises co-founder Dan Corkill. "I loved the darkness, but missed being able to quickly check the time during the night. After searching through the App Store for a bedside clock app that met my needs, I wrote this app as the ideal on-demand time solution. A wave of my hand or a tap on my night table is all I need to see the newly appearing time without my glasses. It's the app that I honestly use all night, every night."
The most visible enhancement in version 1.3 is the addition of adaptive vibration sensing on all iOS devices. Corkill continues: "We marveled at how many users liked to amaze their friends by demonstrating touchless activation on their iPhones, but we were even more pleased by how many found the proximity detection feature so useful. By adding vibration sensing on all devices, we provide yet another means of conveniently activating the time display without having to touch the device. I enable both proximity detection and vibration sensing on my docked iPhone. It's so practical and so amazingly cool!"
"I also enable iOS's Do Not Disturb mode with Silence set to Always when I'm running Disappearing Bedside Clock, and I use "Hey Siri!" to switch on Do Not Disturb and to set my wake-up alarm. (Doesn't everyone these days?)."
Embrace the darkness!
