Surprisingly you might not if the photo is upside down. The app makes it easy for anybody to create this illusion with their own photos and share them with family and friends. In 1980, Peter Thompson discovered the Thatcher effect, a visual illusion that makes it hard to notice changes in an upside down face. Now Evil Twin lets anybody create this illusion with their own photos, whether their iOS device has a camera or not.

"Creating this illusion isn't that hard to do for a graphic artist armed with Photoshop," said Evil Twin's inventor, Kevin Ayre. "But the average iPhone owner doesn't have the necessary software or skills to do this. So I created an app to make it quick and easy for anyone to make this incredible effect with their own photos. We've found that both kids and adults can get good results in seconds and have lots of fun doing so."

But what about the monkeys? A study in the journal Current Biology has shown that the illusion also works on monkeys.
