SenseSleep Uses Neuroscience to Help People Naturally Get Better Sleep - Published on 02/01/16

SenseLabs releases SenseSleep 1.0.0 for iOS, an update to the fitness app that offers controlled breathing exercises to help your brain easily enter a more relaxed, sleepy state. By monitoring your heart rate while guiding you through simple breathing exercises, SenseSleep is designed to lower your heart rate, calm your brainwaves, and prepare your body for rest. Version 1.0.0 introduces a new sleep rating system, sleep insights, redesigned onboarding flow and minor bug fixes.

San Francisco, California - The millions of people who dread the thought of "hitting the sheets" because they know that yet another lousy night's sleep lies ahead, can now re-train their brain to regularly induce deep, nourishing and uninterrupted shut-eye with the groundbreaking new app SenseSleep. Developed by the human performance-focused startup SenseLabs, the science of SenseSleep is based on the understanding that the brain is built to emit relaxed brainwaves when it's time to sleep.

However, millions of people are so wound up due to physical strain, emotional tension, psychological pressure, environmental stress, and so on, that they're simply too active to fall asleep. And that's where SenseSleep features a simple 3-step process that promises to put users to sleep - without any medication or external sleep aid.

Step 1: Users record their heart rate, which is a reliable measure of relaxation - or lack thereof. An elevated heart rate virtually guarantees a poor night's sleep.

Step 2: Users are guided through controlled, yet simple breathing exercises designed by SenseLabs' neuroscientists to prepare them for rest by gently, safely and naturally lowering their heart rate, calming their brainwaves, and inducing a relaxed, sleepy state.

Step 3: Upon waking, users rate their night's sleep in on scale of 1 to 5 stars, which helps them identify patterns and track improvement over time.

"I sleep better before big matches now," commented SenseSleep user Mike Bryan, a member of the world's #1 ranked doubles tennis team and winner of 15 Grand Slam titles.

"Almost immediately, I noticed that I was having better nights of sleep," commented SenseSleep user Carlos Quentin, a veteran MLB outfielder and two-time All Star.

According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, over 40 million people in the U.S. are afflicted with some form of chronic sleep disorder. And the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) links sleep insufficiency to hypertension, diabetes, depression, obesity, cancer, increased mortality, reduced quality of life, car accidents, industrial disasters, occupational errors, and more.

"SenseSleep is a scientifically-based solution that helps align brain, mind and body, so that people can naturally get more and better sleep - which is fundamental for living a healthy, happy and even longer life," commented SenseLabs Chief Science Officer, Leslie Sherlin, PhD.
