Rhythm Solitaire app turns Basic Music theory Into a fun game - Published on 03/13/14

Students and musicians can test their knowledge of notes and rests with the first music theory app from Music Mind Games. Rhythm Solitaire 1.0 helps students learn the value of musical notes and rests. The app uses rhythm cards in place of a standard deck of playing cards. The goal is to win stars by putting all the cards in ascending order in four piles. First time users of Rhythm Solitaire can consult a tutorial before playing.

Kensington, Maryland - Music Mind Games, a company that uses playful games to make learning music theory fun, has released its first iOS app, Rhythm Solitaire 1.0. The app helps students learn the value of musical notes and rests via a digital, music theory-focused game of solitaire.

"We chose this particular game as our first app simply because solitaire is such a popular game around the world", explained Michiko Yurko, Founder and Creator of Music Mind Games. "Anyone can play it: Children who are learning about musical notes, students who already know them, and musicians who'd like to test their knowledge."

The app uses rhythm cards that depict musical notes and rests of varying value in place of a standard deck of playing cards. The goal is to win stars by putting all the cards in ascending order in four piles. First time users can consult an easy-to-follow tutorial before they play.

Cards are dealt in 6 columns (rather than 7), where you can organize them in descending order before moving them up to one of the four piles. If you need a reminder of the order of notes and rests, simply tap on the '?' button during play. Keeping in line with the Music Mind Games philosophy, users win every time they play.
